Betty has gotten much flak over the years from how she pronounces "gauss"...
just do a search and you'll see Betty getting flamed in threads dating back to 2012...

for the record, Betty pronouces "gauss" as "goss" as in moss, whereas Betty haters have insisted that "gauss" is pronounced in the same way as house or mouse.
to add fuel to the fire... the MWO shoutcasters have been using the latter pronounciation as well.

fueled by the desire to save the damsel in distress...
(as well as the dismal state of yolo-potato-brainless-solo queue...)
i went to do some proper research in the battletech universe...

here are 2 video clips from MechCommander 2 that feature the in game weapons specialist saying the word "gauss"
i pulled them straight from the game data files...

https://youtu.be/BEyOHpV9ZcA

https://youtu.be/a_a7hwDw8Zc

so turns out Betty was right all along...
apologize all you Betty haters!

The MechCommander games are wrong too.

It's pronounced like "house" because it's named after Carl Freidrich Gauss, the German mathematician who figured out the math behind magnets. Gauss is a German name that is pronounced like "house". Battlemech didn't exactly invent the concept of a magnetically accelerated projectile weapon.

Admittedly I pronounce it "Goss". Though I often refer to it as Goose Waffle. I'm all for Betty calling it the latter.

With my speech impediment it gets pronounced all sorts of ways and things.Gas roofer,Gah waffle, De foofer and so on. I use to work in a call center and people would say my accent and voice would change depending on the length of calls to mimic the other person. most people say I'd be a great back up singer for the chimpmunks.

I use rak's mlg sounds and still want pgi to give us sound option mixes and packs for mwo. I'd set up the wheiliam scream for when my mech gets destroyed.

The voice actress appears to use the correct pronounciation in 1995. The fact they got her back overrides the gauss issue.

Honestly I don't care which way its said because its one of those words where regional dialects will affect its pronunciation. Like Aluminium where the common American pronunciation of it is 'Aluminum' dropping the i.

What I'd rather have is 'OPTIONS'! I would love to be able to get a betty soundpack (which we can replace sound files our self but I would support official releases) with different accents or even multiple voices in general (i.e. multiple female/male voices that have different tones).

Still possibly one of the most requested cosmetic audio features I think I know of in this game that hasn't been done yet.

In France, "Gauss" and "Goss" are pronouce the same way. Maybe in Canada they have some french way of pronouncing things in english ?

The Scientifically and Objectively Most Correct-est way to pronounce it is, obviously, "Goose Waffle."

I replaced my Betty with a computerized Chinese voice speaking the English.

Now I haven't used Gauss in forever. Wonder how she pronounces it?

While i'm german, i have no problem with how betty is pronouncing gauss. It's weird when an english speaker is tossing differently pronounced words into the sentence. Having the same pronunciation throughout the sentence feels much more natural and consistent.

Especially since the incorrect pronunciation is more common in english then the correct one.

I mean, noone is complaining how rifle is pronounced. Although it's most likely not an english word. Noone is complaining it's not pronounced in french / dutch or proto germanic..

...so why should we players, who exist in the world of real life, keep mispronouncing it just because Microsoft/PGI/HBS/whoever keeps getting it wrong?
