Anyway, I have been saying this for years but there is really no reason why PGI doesn't have twice as many maps in the game. Just quit trying to make the maps artistic, slap down some hills, rocks, trees, valleys, water, etc in any old random fashion, do a test to make sure mechs aren't getting stuck all over the place and call it a done map.

Frozen City (before it was expanded) was a coastal city with a shipwrecked cruise ship (the sea kind, not the space kind).
Forest Colony's reg version before the expansion also had alternate versions with and without the shipwreck.
Frozen City had a weather system where fog/"blizzard" would intensify in one of two (maybe 3?) areas with a small chance of it happening (but when it did it was hard to see).
Occasionally on the old frozen city, it'd alternate between having and not having street lights on streets you can't even see due to the snow cover. Though not sure if this one's intended or just a bug.
I mean there was this bug too.
But long story short, PGI has done similar things in the past. (There's a number of Easter Eggs on Terra Therma, but good luck getting a match on it).

However... all that HDD space isn't going to fill itself so bring it on.
Visually it would be very nice to see all these maps we have come to know represented with a different tileset and just have the fun of playing on them.
Don't limit it to just the quick play maps though, there are the 6 Siege maps and tilesets that can be thrown into the mix.
What would it be like to have Vitric Forge redone in the swamp tileset from Viridian Bog?
Alpine Peaks in the Vitric Forge hell scape?
There is a massive amount of combinations really.

what we really need is community made maps. the number of playable maps would double overnight.

Wont happen. The main issue Russ talked about is the amount of time it takes to balance and test the map and they have small staff. This way they can change cover, temps, and effects of the map without having to go through that process. Yes it would be nice, but lets also take what we can get, and this will double our maps.

Thats exactly what they are talking about doing. Hence me asking everyone what they wanted to see for map reskins.

way i understood the op is he wanted to reskin existing maps, which doesn't really bring any new map layouts to the game. going the other way, textures and prefabs on some hastily generated terrain makes more sense.

I am the OP on this thread haha.
ReSkin includes new buildings, Trees, Changed layout, different Temps, different times of day. Etc. For example It would be the same map like Frozen Highland but instead could be warmer, has grass, have Cookie Cutter placements like farm silos, trees, boulders, barns, and buildings that help block shots.
Same Map, different Skin, different placements of objects. Etc.
