Very interesting, thanks for doing this!
Will there be a final thoughts/analysis after the poll has been open for a set period of time? Or is this more of a you've got the raw data so draw your own conclusions situation?

I would like to see a survey just best light in game Piranha, Wolfhound (Grinner mostly) or other..Same for the top of each class even though assault will be MadCat II without question but otherwise should be between 2-3 mechs for the others. I personally feel Grinner is the best light and I know I am not alone but it seems Piranha is feared a lot even though many good pilots fear the Grinner more.

the only question is: why is the urbanmech under the light category?

Because inspite of being a 60 ton mech, it weighs only 30 tons.

The instructions specifically stated to consider the strongest variant.

That is what makes it kinda hard...for me anyway. Like, I see "Quickdraw" and think "meh" ALL of the non-hero variants are middling if not lower than average performers compared to nearly all other heavies (and even several mediums) imo, but then I think "oh yeah the IV-4" and rather than give the chassis a 5 rating or something, I am forced to give it a higher score to reflect that "strongest variant". But there is the rub: do I give the chassis the score that the one strongest variant provides or does my underlying view of the "meh-ness" of the rest of the variants provide a deflating bias against the score the strongest variant ought to deserve without the baggage of the other variants? Same thing (or the opposite) for a lot of chassis with stand out variants.

Bah! Still a fun exercise. Thanks again Taro.

So what's up with the Charger and Hatamoto Chi that they're being ranked so poorly? I thought they were well-received when they came out.

Both lack the hard points to run properly powerful loadouts. Making good use of 80 tons with 7 E-HPs, for example, is kinda hard without significant quirks.

I'd put my money on the Shugo / HTM-27T with MRMs as the best of the bunch, at a glance. Not bad, and neither is the CGR, but nothing groundbreaking computer to the good Assaults.

I don't think it's the hardpoints letting the Charger down, I think it's the mobility. Specifically, it is really slow in the torso twisting and foot-turning areas for how heavy it isn't. The weapons payload is fine.

The hero is the only one that's really any good. Use it as a flanker to secure kills and hunt lights with the stock omnipod setup. The other Black Lanners are just squishy undergunned mediums and are probably what is dragging the score down, because people don't have experience with the Bellonarius and/or don't read the directions on the poll to only consider the strongest variant.

I'd say the Bellonarious doesn't really offer anything significant better or even different from the standard Lanners. You get an energy in the head, but you sacrifice ECM for it, no bueno. You get to boat MGs, but that's not even better than boating energy on the standard variants. The hero is just... meh.

Lol. I remember a Charger only equipped with 2x ERPPC one time.

Seriously guys keep this on the front page.
We have so many useless sticky threads... why not unsticky some old stuff and make this stiky for a few weeks?

Hmm I must say the Vapor Eagle ranks rather highly given how often *cough* I see it played in QP. Is it some sort of FP dark horse? The chassis basically just blows chunks.

It has really solid builds, good hitboxes, and good mobility. All the good players know this. But very few of them still play the game, let alone buy mechpacks. So that's why you don't see the mech doing very well out in the wild.

It is a good mech. Most people simply don't own it yet. If you see the Comp vs. Casual comparison, higher skilled players (especially Comp and FP Invasion ones) rated it better. Above average hitboxes, above average firepower, battlemech chassis + Clan tech, optimum tonnage for a medium class, JJs, good selection of engine ratings...

Yeah I just got the Vapor eagle basic pack. The mech's mobility is like a breath of fresh air. It actually feels good to pilot it. And I can create a mini Jade Kite build on one variant (5 UAC2s), which is just ridiculous.

I wish the IS had something similar.
