H-PPC Grasshopper works well for me. High mount the PPCs, add 5 medium lasers, a pair of jump jets, and fill every available remaining slot with double heat sinks.

Omnimechs are generally a poor choice for 2x Gauss builds imo as their engines are over sized and locked in with heatsinks.

I have a couple of mechs I use, the Roughneck has nice high hardpoints (the all energy variant is a nice ER PPC carrier, or even ER LL)

What is your experience with Sniper Mechs? Do you always survive a battle?

depends on the battle and the team. if the battle devolves into Nascar Brawl then often your a bit lacking in damage potential. (I also find that my Dragon with AC/10 and 2 ER LL works nice.) a sniper mech is good while you are still in the trading faze of things. (lights and fast mediums being the acceptation since they can snipe and maneuver very well.) in the end it all depends on the team, map, and situation (this goes for any loadout and role to be honest) the trick with a Sniper build is harassment, keep then enemy avoiding, if they are a tying to avoid sniper fire they aren't shoot your allies, if the don't avoid your fire well have fun and take them down.

sort of a little bit like an LRM mech really

Light mechs with a ppc and adv zoom. I detest the laser snipers since the burn time acts as a here-i-am sign and is easy to locate the sniper's location. Acs,ppcs and guass are the better sniper weapons along with the mobility to relocate after 2-3 shots before the enemy's lights/fast movers come after you. Seismic sensor, adv zoom and rad derp are essential skills to invest in.

GHR-5N been playing this a lot lately also, lower ppc is bit low but doesn't matter really that much when you get used to it.
IMO HPPCs don't really count for sniper weapons but its fun mech to play.

The trick with any build whether it be for short range brawls or long range snipe / poke is positioning, situational awareness, and map knowledge. The more you play each match like chess, the more you'll end up surviving or even clutching.

It does matter, that's why by far the best HPPC-hoppers are 5P, 5H and hero. Both peeps in high mounts are much safer to use.

That sounds so undergunned on a Night Gyr, 2CAC2+4CUAC2 is my preferred Night Gyr super long range.
