Greetings All,

Is mrms a better srm? MRMs have a greater range, more ammo per ton (but more used each shot), the info in the mech lab says that srm6 is 4.5 spread and that mrm 40 is 4.6, not much difference, I can't really tell if the mrms are have worse spread than the srms, the speed isn't much different either, 400 = srm, 475 = mrms.

Or is it just a matter of preference?
On a side note: I have noticed that when a RAC unjams, the 'cooldown bar' is already about halfway down, but on a UAC20, when it unjams the bar is still full and then it starts to cool down...I would think the cooling starts when the gun stops firing weather its jammed or not...

Thank you all for any help!

MRM is 1 damage per missile. Believe its also 1 HP per missile (meaning it can be destroyed very easily)/
SRM is 2 damage per missile and 2 HP per missile.

MRMs fly faster, but are fired piecemeal in a stream.
SRMs fire as a single volley.

There's arguments to be had for both. For example a faster mech that wants to line up a shot, pull the trigger and get the heck out would prefer SRMs.
Something that wants to have time to deal with a dodging enemy would probably prefer MRMs, as you can fire and while the stream is being spewed you can twist side to side or spin in a circle or whatever you want to shotgun it out in whatever pattern you want to help you land something...anything...on the target.

Actually seen someone trying to form letters with a pair of MRM-40s. Nothing like being killed by someone writing "pwned" in the air with missiles as he shoots you.

When considering reload times, soon as SRMs leave the nest, your cooldown bar starts. When an MRM fires the cooldown bar doesn't start until the last one leaves.

I like both, though overall I think I prefer SRMs.

In general, I prefer the dynamics of SRMS.

That said, I feel MRMs tend to be most viable in mechs that have limited missile hardpoints, IE the Quickdraw IV4, which only has 2 missile points.

IV4 with a couple of SRM6's isnt going to get you anywhere. Even if you back it up with lasers.
Put a MRM 60 on there and you have a different story.

Yeah but for SRM6 you always run Artemis... Like, at every opportunity, because of the nerfs they have taken. They brings you down ~30% off the top of my head without checking. Also take into account SRM launcher tonnage vs MRM. And also the heat.

Two mechs as example:

GRF-2N - SRM

GRF-2N - MRM

The MRM build while having more range has quite a bit more spread, is slower, higher cooldown ... In a brawl it will perform worse.

The MRM @ 400M however will be better (obviously) and it does have more ammo so more potential damage but far more spread and less lethal as a result.

So for the GRF the SRM6+A is better as you can pack on 4 launchers.

Now over to say a Wolverine with different quirks the MRMs work better on that mech and it can only pack 2/3 launchers and thus SRMs are now underpowered.
