I am probably going to pre-order MW5 but I am not sure if I want to just go with the Standard Community Edition or one of the higher level packages. What I want to know is if, like a mech pack, you can buy the Standard Package, then 6 months down the road, upgrade to the Ultimate package or if you're stuck with what you originally purchased? I have checked the FAQ but didn't see this answered unless I missed it.

Can anyone clarify this?

Thanks in advance.

3.) CAN I UPGRADE MY PRE-ORDER?
  • Currently there is no means for upgrading from one pre-order level to another.

This was my first question as well.

I had been waiting for this to come out since when MWO was in alpha and said it would not have PVE...
Sadly I think they picked the worst possible time to come out with the pre-order. Anthem is launching in Feb and just had it's huge reveal at CES/nvidia commercial run start literally 1 day before that email for pre-orders went out. Dropping MW5 ontop of another 4K high quality mech type game is horrible timing...they come out like once every 5 years and now we have 2 on top of each other lol. It's like having Justice League and Avengers come out a week apart.

I just thought of an another question. When I buy a mech pack I typically just buy the standard package and then after release and after I have had a chance to test out the mechs in the standard package, I often purchase the hero mech add on. With these pre-orders can I independently upgrade the mech pack itself and buy the hero add on at a later point?

Good question. I would say most likely. Otherwise you could abuse it to get 2 heroes dirt cheap if you did the full pre-order and then snag the one from the site too.)

I think it is most likely as well but my concern is the way the content is going to be delivered. For example they are giving us a redeem code so lets say I buy the Standard Pack and add the hero for $15 later on. Then lets say after I do this, I get to thinking I really should have gotten the Ultimate Pack for $120 which comes with the hero but since I already purchased the hero as a separate add on, do I get a $15 credit against the Ultimate Pack?

It gets even more confusing when you start talking about the MC. Lets say I buy the standard pack and then redeem the code to use the MC to purchase some warhorns, a hero mech and some camos. However later I get to thinking that I should have bought the Ultimate Pack which would theoretically give me another code to redeem for the MC but if that is the case, the code is going to have to register that I already got 24,000 MC from the standard package and deduct that amount from the 60,000 MC I would get for the Ultimate Pack. This is why I am asking how upgrading works or is it even possible. I mean I could really see them saying that your locked in to what you originally purchase just because trying to link all the different combos to each other and have the codes properly deduct the right amounts from each package as you upgrade would probably be a procedural nightmare.

Note: Someone pointed out to me that it is in the FAQ that you can't upgrade from one package level to another so that question is answered.

As far as the mech-pack is considered, I would guess it works the same way as if someone handed you a gift code for the mechpack. The webshop will show that you own the standard and you can go ahead and upgrade the reinforcements or hero addons later. The only thing you wont be able to upgrade to is the ultimate level, because it's just standard+reinforcements+hero.
