While constructing a drop deck it'd be really FANTASTIC to have a user selectable option in the 'mech select list to automatically filter out 'mechs that are too heavy for the available tonnage.
One of the best practices of good UI design is to actively work to prevent "miss clicks" and having the option available to the user to "filter" 'mechs based on available tonnage would do that.
The way I envision this working is in the "Edit Drop Deck" screens, there'd be a check box that would say something like "Filter by Tonnage", if activated, as a newly created drop deck is being filled out, the 'mechs too heavy for the available weight would be removed as selectable options (whether completely removed from the screen completely, or greyed and inactivated, whatever is most efficient to the performance of the interface). For example person building an IS drop deck, after two one hundred ton 'mechs were selected would see that only 65 ton and lighter 'mechs would be available, next 'mech selected, say a 40 tonner would further eliminate any but the 25 ton 'mechs.
For editing an existing deck, the filter would need to work by the current 'mech selected plus any available tonnage, for example, if the available tonnage was zero, but the player had a 55 ton 'mech selected from the existing drop deck, then only 55 ton and lighter 'mechs would be displayed. If they had a filled drop deck, but 25 tons available, and they selected a 75 ton 'mech from their existing drop deck, then the filter would show ALL 'mechs (75+25 = 100).
Again, just thinking of ways to eliminate those minor, but unfortunately consistent, pain points of the game. Feel free to put it in the "one of these days" list...
