Don't be so sanctimonious!
I've had very large stretches of time where I have not played. I can only manage very short runs nowadays.
I don't really play singleplayer games outside of rpgs.
MW5 is nearly all singleplayer. Co-op games are ok, but still vs AI. that gets dull really, really fast.
It is being done by PGI who have made a very serious hash of community in MWO.
The pre-order bonus to me is largely worthless because I don't play enough, the MAD 2 doesn't interest me in the slightest. It's bribery to get people to pre-order.

Now if MW5 was a modern updated MW4 with online play in the same vein, I might be interested. but it isn't. It's single player vs scripted AI.
*yawn*
If the story is EXCELLENT I might play it, but $50 is too step a price.

Don't be so dis respectful.

Going back to the same point

Are you likely to get it at some point?

Are you still going to play MWO?

If so then why not get more for your money.

If either is no then don't get it. If both are yes then you're just wasting an opportunity. If PGI is getting your money sooner or later they're not losing out on anything.

Hopefully it's got either multiple endings or sandbox ending for replay value.
As much as we love past games they all ended.
And acrrual and replay are huge draws.

I have a lot of old games I still play. One advancement in modern games I love are the sandbox/open world designed ones. Linear level design now isn't as entertaining for me. mods and ability to mod is another more modern design choice in game and one that heavily decides if I'm going to get a game.

Since mw5 looks to be somewhat linar in design it'll be mods that'll extend or make it have any replay value. I've got several old pcs for emulation and virtual os-es to play past games from the 1980s to early 2000s. The co-op might get me to con my brother into getting the game. He prefers flight and driving sims to robot shooters. His kids will play about anything that is two or more player when we let them so four of us in mw5 will be fun for a while.

I'll eventually get mw5 but at a sale from a site like gog or on my steam. Pgi's track record for making actual games fun (and sometimes play-able) is horrible.

So you're really going to ignore it for the closed beta. Really? Are you going to play MWO at any point in the future after MW5 is out?

Even if it's 1/2 off, so like $25 off, you're still getting a better value in the pre-order.

I think almost everyone in this thread saying 'nope never' and even more entertainingly the 'I have been playing MWO for ever and know better than the preorder' are fooling only themselves. They'll buy it shortly after release or even during the closed beta, spend close to or the same as the preorder price and just not get all the associated perks of the preorder.

As I said elsewhere I'll say here again -

You are all weak or you would have walked away from MWO a dozen forum tantrums ago. The vast majority have bought other mech packs after saying 'my wallet is closed'.

The preorder perks for MW5 are bordering on insane. You can't say I haven't been brutally critical of PGI a hundred times but the reality is that unless MW5 is and will always be, never getting fixed, a total pile of trash I'll buy it. If I'm going to buy it anyway why don't I enjoy the developer discord, the closed beta, the MAD II (which I likely would have gotten anyway) and a metric ton of MC plus a pile of cbills and GXP not to mention months of premium time.

Just preorder. Don't be stupid about it. You're going to spend the money on MW5 and you'll find a use for the MC and premium time and other goodies. This isn't even about tacit approval of PGI - MW5 is in the can. It's done, they're doing it, it's going to be released and patched up and the like. They're also going to get your money from it sooner or later. You're throwing away far more than you're saving by waiting - and you probably won't wait that much after info from closed beta comes out and mods hit the scene, etc.
every single point you made is valid... you son of a... my, reservation, is I'm not one to buy a car with out test driving it. I'd be happier if there was like a mission demo we could d/l first and give it a whirl. But free demos died in the early 2000's sadly.

But you're right... and MAY have changed my mind... I'll think about it.

Dumb question: Do you need to create a new account to preorder? It won't let me login to the preorder with my regular account info.

Yes, you have to create an account on the MW5 page.

I went all-in. Despite its flaws, I enjoy MWO and for me, the pre-order bonuses are good value.

Once my wife gets back home, I'll have secured the big package.
I like having my mechs pretty, so between hero collecting and some patterns / bolt-ons, I'll have plenty to do with MC. The Marauder II's collection will help with the annual rewards, which getting those is about the only real reason I have spent anything in MWO as of the last couple of years.

And I've always been serious about getting the game since it was announced to have mod support. There's no other realistically tangible way to make a true Battletech sim... than to mod a Mechwarrior game to fit as close as possible to BT. The fact that it can co-op is a bit of a bonus in that regard.

Side bonus, Marauder II finally has the cannon in the right place.
Used the tabletop Marauder for so long and the cannon's placement has had such a crucial role in why it was so successful (its a turret, it can be fired over hills while laying down for ambushes while hidden, etc.), that it just doesn't feel right if its not in the correct spot.

I bought the collector. The value added is just too much. The MC alone is worth the price, not to mention everything else that comes with it. I’d have bought the MAD-2 collector for the MAD-4A(S) anyway, and this is essentially getting it for free with the MC purchase, and getting MW5 for free with beta access. That’s a pretty unbeatable deal for any MWO player. I just haven’t cashed in the key yet because I don’t want to start the clock on the premium time yet.

Disregarding the expense, any thoughts on multiple accounts for MW5? As in you could explore two divergent story lines at the same time...

its extremely tempting and in all likelihood i will be buying it.

my only issue is that they chosen to limit mechlab customisation. its kinda stupid in my opinion as it makes way more sense to have it fully customisable and then those people who wanted it limited for lore reasons can simply not use the whole thing. its a single player game, by having it fully open anyone can choose to limit themselves, its not like it will affect anyone else. or build in options to have full, limited or very limited customisation. single player games should have options

One of the things i love most about MWO is the stupid levels of customisation. its a big blow to me wanting to buy the game.
Im hoping someone mods it so that its totally customisable, not limited arbitrarily

Still waiting for more gameplay to be shown. The AMA sound promessing but then did some of the other announcements for MWO so...mhh...don't know.

I am definitly torn between preordering or not as I realy like the bonuses for MWO but I don't want to support preorders as I had one to many bad preorders and prefere if the companys in general come back to selling finished games.

In a related note, I hope people are not placing too much hope on mod support.

Wait, what? Is MW5 locking it's solo story driven campaign to a purchased account? Is this game a live service? Are they making us buy save slots?

What stupid horseshit did I miss?

It's a weird thing to bank on, for sure.

I can't tell if you are talking about PGI or the people who buy their monthly mech.

Their preorder bonus are honestly really great. Until you see the gimmick. "buy now and get four things or wait till we release more spoilers to make up your mind and only get one thing". How am i supposed to interpret that? its either a **** move or a desperate one. Make your bets.

I already pre-ordered because i don't think MW5 is going to be any worse than the current so called AAA bullcrap that a lot of the big Publishers are selling. Might as well invest my money in something i actually like (game in Battletech universe) and provide some support by doing so and enjoy some digital goodies in the only f2p game that i didn't get bored of after a week because of the grind or the p2w crap thats in a lot of other games. Only other game i ever pre-ordered was Guild Wars 2 back at its release.
