I was wondering if anyone knows if Mechwarrior 5 is advertised as running on Linux. I know it's using the Unreal 4 engine, so it should be possible but I don't recall seeing any system specs anywhere.

TLDR: No.
It's highly unlikely PGI will put any effort into making MW5 run on anything other than Windows (unless they think they can cash in on XBox, etc and make it a multi-platform build).
Minimally Viable Product = Minimum Effort

Twitter russ is the only real way to get any information from pgi. Such a great way to communicate with people who might have spent money if the information they wanted was easily found on a website for the product and more easily obtained other then twittering the president of the company.

Unless PGI is putting resources into this (aka effort), this is a very unlikely situation.
Just imagine the additional hassle and QA (which is virtually non-existent at times) that PGI has to do with the game.

They should configure MW5 to use Vulkan. since Unreal Engine 4 supports it. The less things use DirectX, the better. It's wholly unnecessary.

I would LOVE to see a Linux port of the game.......but, considering the issues they have keeping it running on Windows, I'd not hold my breath.

I would guess no for obvious reasons, plus the fact that M$ are the owners of the MW franchise IP there might be some specific licenseing restrictions on PGI in this regard. Traditionally M$ has strategically avoided support for linux.

Considering Windows has a native bash application, and that most Azure servers run Linux instead of Windows, I don't think that is true anymore. It may only be a matter of time before Windows itself uses a Linux kernel.
