New players dont understand about engines or fiddling with them . I was playing the game for more than 6 months before i started messing with engines . Swopping weapons and changing to endo and ferro armour is obvious , not this .
Dunno how useful this sale is ? If I buy a new mech and it needs an engine change , its done asap. Also everymech needs a different engine . I have tried holding onto engines i pulled out , only to find i cannot just put it into any mech . X mech only functions the way i want with X engine .
So stockpiling engines help how ?
On the plus side i can always use a mechbay sale .

Depends ... thanks to the help of others here in the forums and some other websites, I started hunting for optimal engine sizes within the first week or two of playing MWO, of course heavily limited by the available budget of C-Bills at that time.

The Top 10 of engines I have used in new or updated builds in 2018 are:
6x LE300 5x XL280 3x XL300 3x XL295 3x STD300 3x LE325 2x XL250 2x XL170 2x LE350 2x LE285
The Top 20 of all my builds, though many of them haven't been updated to new tech:
16x XL280 15x XL300 13x XL255 8x XL295 7x XL340 7x LE300 6x XL270 6x XL265 6x XL190 6x XL180 5x XL330 5x XL285 5x XL235 5x LE325 4x XL350 4x XL335 4x LE295 4x LE285 4x LE280 4x LE270
Of course you should check which engines are included in mechs you are planning to buy, some engine sizes are quite common in stock load-outs, e.g. STD/XL 280/300, and you may even want to wait for 50% C-Bill sales of mechs containing XL engines to get those sizes.

Well, you could use the chance to buy one of every engine above 180 rating

It's true that newest players won't have a clue about engines, but newER players will start to see interesting things about engines, for example the LFE275 and LFE280 have the same weight but the LFE280 offers abit more speed. I didn't realise this earlier on and just bought engines based on the 1-more-heatsink-every-25-engine-points rule. This 25% sale is a nice excuse for me to start replacing some LFE275 builds with LFE280 just for that little bit of min-maxing.
This thing with LFE275/280 plays out for several other engines too.
And by default any player building loadouts will appreciate any discount on CBill equipment while creating loadouts. Perhaps they won't stockpile engines since they are expensive, but they will save 25% if they are configuring during the sale period.

It works this way when e.g. cockpit items are on sale (buy them in the in-game store instead of the mechlab), so I hope the same applies here.
