The main complaint I hear about the QP game as it stands is the "Wrong Mech for this map" so I was thinking, (doesn't happen often but,,)
How about remove map voting, taking the default four mechbays that all players get and have then as a drop dec for QP. similar to Invasion or Seige dropdecs.
Mechs could be swapped in and out of the decs as per FP, but instead of selecting your first mech you select your mech for the drop. Think no respawn faction play without seige.
It must be added that I know sod all about game design,

Main issue is that the match-maker uses weight class in determining team composition. If they implemented something like this and don't simultaneously overhaul the match-maker, they would have to restrict your choices to 'Mechs in the weight class you selected at the start.

What if they made a matchmaker that would determine team composition using weight class after the map is chosen and the mech is selected?

... that doesn't stop everyone picking assaults or just one person picking an assault ect.
only way to do it is keep voting just like it is (no idea why you think that needs changing for this) and rather than some clunky deck idea. just have it so players queue up as a weight then once game/mode is picked you can select a mech of the matching weight
