I am new to Mechwarrior online but not to the Mechwarrior game series. I am looking for a group of players to work with and hone my skills. Are there still units which are active and recruiting? If so, where can I find them?

Yes, there are units, and some may be recruiting. You should get Teamspeak and/or Discord, and head over to the faction play section of the forum. Look for Teamspeak servers posted there, get online and see who is around at the time when you play. Most units I know of will be happy to help you out.

Thanks Roland! I primarily use discord but will grab teamspeak and see what I can rustle up. Anyone who is interested in recruiting and sees this post. Let me know the best way to get in contact. I am interested in working with a team to improve my game and work together.

Might be good to Let them know your primary play time so units of the same time zone might look into it

Have you even played the game? I show you with zero logged matches. I would play the game first before looking for a unit.

You know players can't post unless they've played.
2nd) The OP shows 4 posts in total, 2 are here, and 2 are lost to the mists of time.
His profile says "Member Since 04 Jun 2012" so he's from Closed Beta.
Beta easily explains the missing early posts, especially from early years when stats didn't keep.

Also some players left after IPG prodded PGI to release MWO early.
I left for a couple years just after IPG announced gold Khan skins and how IPG was non-communicado over MW:Tactics and the lack of updates but after ?blue lizard? announced IPG kicked them as MWT devs and I figured MWO/PGI was doa because of IPG probably having money issues (from being scammers) like everyone was (correctly) guessing at the time.
But hey its all ancient history so never mind.

Let me clear up a little of the mystery:

• 
  I have been playing Mechwarrior since the mid 80's and MWO on AOL:GEnie
  
• 
  I have played the Mechwarrior Series on PC
  
• 
  I became a Founder and have played matches here and there, but quite frankly until recently, my PC was under powered to run the game.
  
• 
  I sporadically played a few matches here and there to try and learn the basic controls. (I think I have them down).
  
• 
  I now have a high-end PC with a High End Graphic card and the game screams, but unfortunately the game is very different from the last time I seriously tried to play (about 2 years ago).
  
• 
  I played a bunch of matches last night and can play OK, but want to get better and learn some team tactics.

Hope this helps explain my situation. I am in the EST Time zone ad tend to play between 9:00 PM and 1:00 AM EST. I am a casual to semi=serious player lookinng for like minded guys who want to work together.

Anyone looking for someone of my caliber (such that it is) let me know.

It's funny...people ask me similar questions. "You have been registered since 2015 but you have so few games"

For me MWO didn't click until recently,( I was umm a "vocal critic") plus Iv'e been insanely busy the past four years.....

But the game has come a long way, and I think that situation has been true for a lot of folks.
