Hi,
I've been experiencing lag (rubber mech) for the past few months that I cannot play as light anymore, the lag means death. I can only play with slower mech.
I did MTR tool to diagnose the routing and it's bizarre.
To connect to Oceanic:
SG > NL > UK > US > AU
I have opened ticket to PGI providing MTR tool resut. They said it's my ISP fault.
I contacted my ISP and they only make promises. Even asking me to get a reverse Trace from MWO to my home. Which I said impossible to get.
So, I'm thinking if I use VPN, would it improve the connection?
But the price is quite expensive like USD12 per month.
Do you have recommendation?
Thank you.

if anything a vpn will add more lag to the game. i keep mine off for games.
all a vpn does is encrypt your traffic which is sent to another server to pretend to be you. its still going to get routed to that server through your isp's oddball routes.
there may be an off chance that you might get preferential routing if bounce off a vpn server near au. but with au being in the middle of a whole lot of blue with arguably the worst ping times in the world in any direction, your choices are somewhat limited. mabe try bouncing off nz to see if you can get a more direct route. its mostly a trial and error process. but the vpn itself is going to add a lot of overhead which will increase your pings.

I had similar issues a few years back where, periodically, AT&T and another provider weren't set correctly, and I'd get routed from the US to FRA to CA, instead of just direct to CA. Each time it occurred it took about a week to resolve.
All respect to LordNothing, depending on the ping/latency you're getting now with the F'd up route, a VPN "could" reduce the problem for you, as long as the VPN host you connect to doesn't have the same ISP as you and its own ISP isn't suffering the same peering issue.
Granted, what LordNothing says is "generally" true, but if you can find a VPN host that routes from SG > AU, you've eliminated a lot of hops and a lot of extra latency you're suffering now.

Hi guys,
Thanks for reply. Maybe if I can try few VPN for a month rather than subscription for a whole year to see if it fixes the issue.
I'll get back to report of the trial.
