Me an a lot of People have noticed, that you gain a massive heat spike while side torsos are getting destroyed. Seems like the actual present heat gets re-distributet on the remaining heat sinks which may cause an instant shutdown as the heat capacity gets reduced, but the heat stays the same.

It needs to be the other way around. The remaining heat needs to be normalized (!) on the remaining number of heat sinks resulting in a constant heat level with (just) a reduced heat capacity.

PLS address this PGI. Its really annoying when you come back from a nice and cosy shutdown (no pun intended) and just get shot into another one without having actually produced any heat!

That is the way it was patched in a few months ago. Instead of removing reducing the Heat Scale/bar from the bottom up, it now removes it from the top down. It was a combo move to fix some but not all the heat bar bugs and to put more emphasis on not riding that heat bar when ya coming under heavy fire.

So it is removing 40% of the engine heat sinks + any heatsinks on the destroyed ST side. That 40% is 4 out of the 10 engine heatsinks. If there are heatsinks in the engine HS slots that is included in the 40%. Example, Timber wolf has a total of 15 HS = 10 engine HS + 5 HS loaded in the HS slots. So 40% makes 6 out of 15 HS are lost.

So technically it is not a heat spike, same amount of heat but now the top has been removed from that heat bar and if the heat level is pass that threshold, shutdown occurs and some heat damage, or if Override is in place, heat damage.

It was patched in the Oct 2018 patch This is the patch that changed up the dissipation rate/heat cap

It was patched in December. Not Oct

Oct was the dissipation change.

The torso loss came later in an attempt to fix the heat bug (incorrect bar readings) but it failed to do that.


Either way it needs to he removed. It's a insta gib mechanic, I see players suffering from it daily. It's not helping the enjoyment of the game.

It is not a heat "spike" though but before this change went live there was immediate heat effect when losing a ST with a cXL/LFE.

Timber Wolf has total 15 teHS in the engine, both 10 eHS and 5eslotHS

Heat scale/bar = base 30+20 eHS (SHS or DHS)

15 teHS

Heat bar/scale: Base 30 + 10eHS + 0.5*5 eslotHS = 30 + 2*10 + 2.50 = 52.50 heat scale/bar = 100 %

Destroyed ST = 40% tHS = 6 teHS lost out of 15 teHS leaving 60% teHS

6 teHS lost, does that number actual 10 eHS? I bet it does but since the was removed from the bottom it never really affected anyone. (answered the question with the patch notes listed below)



****Base 30 + 4 eHS remaining + 5 eslotHS = new heat scale/bar = 30 + 2*4 + 0.5*5 = 40.5 = New 100% heat scale/bar

40.5/52.5 = 77.14% of original Heat scale/bar left, losing 22.76% of the heat scale/bar.

WIth a cXL/LFE engine with only 10 teHS in it, 4 out of 10 HS lost.
30 + 2*6 teHS = 30 + 12 = 42

42/50 = 84% if the heat scale/bar actually scaled this max %. Technically the mech lost 16% of its heat scale bar when it lost 40% of the heat sinks. But that loss was originally reflected by coming off the bottom so there was no real, instant negative effect of losing even the engine total heatsinks.

I have not viewed any video showing when a pilot was NOT riding 90% heat scale/bar when losing a ST but for the mechs equipped with engines with extra HS slots which are utilized, where exactly is that 40% being removed from?

I answered my own question, and this is when the cXL was added its first penalty while set to 20%. The update to 40% years later was likely due to the actual dissipation lost more so than the capacity loss, or both, patched 1-24-2017 for 40%, original 20% 10-07-2014, movement penalty 12-01-2015.

So those engines with heat sink slots that are utilized are hit harder with the loss of a ST than those mechs which do not use or do not have additional heat sinks in the engine HS slots.
