The MRM’s effective range (550) and damage makes it the most versatile IS missile weapon. MRMs should be used when a chassis has 3 missiles hardpoint or less. Those chassis typically have great missiles quirks to make it up for the lower number of missiles hardpoint. The bests quirks to look for are MISSILE HEAT GEN and MISSILE COOLDOWN.
MRM spreads more then SRM2, SRM4 AND SRM6A. Spread a bit more than SRM6 STD.
MRM's boat have a lower dps and sustainable dps, in comparison to a SRM boat investing the same tonnage in weaponry.
By example, on the GRF-2N, 2 MRM30 will lose a brawl to 4SRM6A easily.
MRM works better on poptarts because the weapon systems struggle to win trades.
MRM have a high alpha, but it spread so much that 15% of the damage doesn’t hit an immobile medium at 550m, and the remains spreads across all the target.
There is no clean kill with MRM. The weapon spread so much, it does so much ineffective damage and it take a lot of time and components destroyed to kill something.
Good MRM combination are: 1 MRM40, 2MRM30, 2MRM40, 1MRM40+2RM30 and 4MRM30. Any other combination, with 4 or more missile hardpoint, are bad. MRM cyclops is a troll, 6 MRM10 aint a thing. Learn again to use a good SRM boat.
The weapon is decent, but not good, in any given scenario. If i find myself in a mid range engagement i would wish i was playing a laser vomit and if i find myself brawling i would wish i had landed in my SRM boat instead.
It outrange most of the popular laser vomit build, but MRM lose trade against pinpoint load out if you get slightly too close to their effective range.
Even tho MRM work better the closer you get, (the spread tighten), you have to be careful when brawling. MRM is the less effective brawling weapon system.
MRM boat will lose head’s on brawl against better brawler with a combination of those weapons systems: HGR, LBX20, LBX10, SRM, SMLL, SMLP, ML.
All MRM rating share the same CD and spread unlike SRM. The only variant is the damage per heat ratio that get better with heavier rating.
To conclude
SRM outperform MRM in a brawl, it makes sense, but then you wonder what is their utility since they also suck at winning trade at medium range.
I have to suggest changes that would buffs MRM at medium range, since this is suppose to be their core role. Also we don't want to bring changes that would bring them on top of SRM for brawling.
- I would suggest a second burst of speed after 350 meters, bringing their velocity from 475 to 600 in order to trade decently better at higher range.
- Or /and change the way MRM work: make the missile cluster more precise at long range. Make them behave like reverted LBX.
