Honest question:

Is it such a foreign concept to like something despite being aware of its shortcomings? I'd assume most of us to be adults here who are able of at least that much critical thinking, no?

I also like The Expandables movies for what they are, but I'll be the first to admit the they're utterly brain-dead flicks that solely hinge on one's nostalgia, filled with cheesy writing, mediocre acting as threadbare plot.

Of course, you can like whatever you like. I like the movie Robot Jox, and I doubt anyone is going to put it into the same category as Citizen Kane Posted Image.

I think some have been let down by the Jihad/Dark Ages era (I myself haven't had experience in those eras so I can't really comment on their quality). Regardless of that, I could see other people liking it. It depends on a person's experiences with the franchise.

That being said, just as it is ok to like content that is less than well received, it is also ok to dislike it as well. I like Terminator 1 and 2, however as much as I like those movies and the universe as a whole, I am not going to bat for anything after T2 Posted Image.

Anyway...For all it's short comings though, BattleTech can fair pretty well when it comes to Science Fiction. It has things that may not hold up today or may date it a bit, but it always seems to deliver an intriguing overall story.

P.S. I like the Expendables movies too Posted Image

Even if PGI advances the timeline, the Jihad is a long ways off. I have a feeling that the reason that PGI is handling the Civil War the way they are is because it would be a pretty big change and would require quite a revamp. Some major Civil War developments off the top of my head (some of these might be pre-Civil War , but aren't reflected in MWO yet):

Smoke Jags go away. All of them.
Wolves split and half of them join the Inner Sphere
Nova Cats side with Draconis Combine and move into their space.
Ghost Bear merges with Rasalhague and becomes an IS state
IS units get access to Clan tech through salvage after Operation Serpent-Bulldog.
Clans become far more interested in taking planets from each other than taking them from the IS.
Clan Diamond Shark starts selling Clan mechs to the IS

PGI is advancing the story in their own way. Clan IIc mechs were rarely seen in the IS prior to the Falcon-Wolves war and the Bear's moving their entire clan into IS space. Except for Ghost Bear, non-omnis were normally given to Solahama units and scrubs. PGI releasing these mechs is advancing the timeline.
