Hello all!

I recently picked up a Katana Kat- I was looking for a fast mobile PPC mech with JJ and the Katana Kat seemed to fit the bill.

Recently I have been deciding between running one HPPC and 2 Medium lasers or Running 4 LPPC and firing them 2 at a time or chain firing them. The later builds weakness is being under run, but this mech seems pretty mobile.

Which build do you guys think is better?

Do any of you have any other builds which might work that focus on PPCs?

Also would any of you recommend any other mechs which are long/mid range and are fast with JJ? I love my Grinner, but I find myself missing the JJs.

Thanks in advance!

If you're not too attached to the Katana Kat and don't mind Clan 'Mechs, you should consider the Shadowcat if you want highly mobile PPC shenanigans with JJs. Does it a lot better than Panthers.

Dual ppc is what I would probably use. Put the ppc in the same arm for convergence issues.

How fast is fast for you? HBK-IIC-A is a great PPC-tart moving at 90 kph. And it doesn't overheat.

I run my PNT-10K with a single ERPPC, 2xLAMS and max JJs.

Just putting it out there...

Yeah this 120%. If you want a mobile PPC sniper there are none better. Small, Fast, even faster with MASC, ECM Excellent cooling capability, high mounted PPCs, the total package for this type of gameplay.

I have the shadowcat hero right and run a 1 UAC 10 and 2 Heavy Medium Lasers. Haven't thought about running ppcs on it, but that's a great idea. 90 kph is probably the slowest I would go, but I would give it a shot. I think I have a Hunchback IIC that I got when they were on sale - don't remember the variant (not the hero).

Lately I have been concentrating more on Inner Sphere mechs because I was thinking about trying out faction play, but as of now the only thing I have queued for is Quick Play still. I heard the BJ-3 is a decent PPC carrier, but again it seems a bit on the slow side for what I want.

I'm looking for a mech that can engage at mid-long range and has good mobility and JJ. I would move away from the PPCs and try a UAC,AC, or Gauss build if there was one you all could think of. Regular lasers seem to be in a lot of the builds people run on those mechs, but it always seems counterintuitive to me (easy to track where you are firing from).

Thanks for the quick responses. Much appreciated!

I had something like VT-6M for a while on one of my Vulcans, dont let the excessive amounts of heatsinks fool you - that thing has a 15% global cooldown quirk so needs extra cooling, but you could drop some as its skilled up in favor of more jump jets or a TC. Also pretty easy to exchange it for other ppc types if you want more flexibility.

If you are after quirked ppc mech, the bj-3 will do the job really well. Dual ppc and 2 mediums as back up. Once fully quirked replaced with erppc.

Also grab ether a griffin, bushwacker or Assassin for Scouting.

Grab ether a Warhammer, Grasshopper or Marauder as a Heavy. GL if you need help with builds just ask. I will keep my eye on this post for ya.

Well going IS does limit your options. Here is the best I can come up with.

Griffin Hero - Sparky

SPARKY
  • 104.5 kph pre-tweak, 112.3 kph after tweak.
  • Excellent 67.1m jump distance (can drop a few JJs off if huge leaping potential is not important to you)
  • -10% to heat quirk to assist with cooling those PPCs off.

My Panther (don't recall variant right now) runs a ERPPC, a SRM6, and 3 ER Small lasers. Adding the small lasers actually was a huge boost to my damage output in games.

IS only mobile PPC 'mechs with JJs?

(All speeds are with max engine & before Speed Tweak)

JVN-10F - 2E per torso, 153.9kph
OSR-1V - 2E LT, 153.9kph
UM-R63 - 2E LT, 97.2kph
FS9-A - 1E per torso, 136.5kph
ASN-101 - 1E per torso, 153.9kph
CDA-3F - 2E per torso, 137.7kph
VL-5T - 3E RT, 1E LT, 127.6kph
BJ-3 - 1E per torso, 84.6kph
PXH-1B - 1E RT, ECM, 127.8kph
ENF-5D - 2E LT, 105.3kph
UZL-6P - 1E per torso, 105.3kph
GRF-5M - 2E LT, 106.0 kph
SHD-2K - 3E LT, 106.0 kph

There are a few cases where you want a different variant of those 'mechs if you're running a single PPC, because they have better quirks, but those should all be decent to great choices.
