Why should the King Crab be the next assault mech for MWO?

First and foremost, we need more ballistic hardpoints in the game . . .

. . . Third, the King Crab would add a mech that is less-humanoid in shape. In full confidence, the art team could definitely make the concept art look absolutely sickening! With all of that said, I would love to see the art team tackle this mech design. But, you may ask yourself, what about the Annihilator? While the Annihilator is a great mech design, it looks like all the other mechs… humanoid.

This is pretty much exactly what I've been saying in favor of the King Crab for some time. I would not be surprised at all if it ended up being the elusive #16

Not sure if it needs to be the next 'Mech, but given the Raven due to appear, and its art showed it was a Davion one, factionally niche stuff that TT would say is rare outside of ComStar in the timeperiod might not really apply to MWO

Ravens are actually very common along the Capellan border, as so many got captured in the 4SW there's multiple Davion-made variants in quantity.

And I'd think the Mauler would be more likely, even if I really, really <3 the King Crab. Lots of spots to mount ballistics and the tonnage to pull it off- dual Gauss rifles define ballistic firepower in the post-Clan era, and a Mauler can do it.

Whilst I am against the King Crab being included due to it being a ComStar Mech (they have yet to whip out a massive army out of nowhere), I agree, there is nothing like a Gauss Rifle or a UAC/10 to deliver a very bad day at range.

There currently are no assault ballistic boats in MWO (JagerMech is a heavy, and the Atlas only has an AC/20 or a Gauss Rifle for the AS7-K).

The Assaults as of 3049:

Awesome, Charger, Victor, Zeus, BattleMaster, Stalker, Cyclops, Mauler, Banshee, Atlas

The Awesome, Stalker, and Atlas are already in.

The Cyclops CP-11-B is doable with 3049 tech (its just FF armor and a smaller engine so the AC/20 could be swapped a pair of Gauss Rifles) despite it being officially a Jihad-era Mech. There is precedent for this as the AS7-K, which is in game (there was someone using it at the nVidia LAN party), is actually a 3050's Mech that was doable with 3049 tech.

If not the King Crab, than give us its smaller Cousin. We could also use a bigger Laser Boat too, no?

YES King Crab is awesome I would use only that mech if it were available.

Also add the regular crab as well

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Crab

No Mechwarrior PC game has actually ever added either crab when they in reality are kind of popular. Everyone I knew who played Battletech liked them because they were not the usual Macross ripoff or humanoid mech.

As far as I remember, the Crab was available on the PC on MW2: Mercenaries. Many other interesting 'Mechs were available, such as the Rakshasa (although that comes much after 3049) and the nice Thug. The King Crab, though, has never made an appearance that I know of.

The more I look at it, the more I like the KGC-010 variant. :)
 • Endo Steel frame
 • standard Fusion Engine (with a top speed of 54 kph)
 • 258 points of Standard Armor (84% of maximum armor)
 • dual LB 10-X ACs (RA, LA) with 60 reloads (30 in RT, 30 in LT)
 • dual PPCs (RT, LT)
 • dual SRM-6 launchers (RT, LT) with 30 reloads (15 in RT, 15 in LT)
 • both RT and LT are CASE-protected
And as it appears in Record Sheets: 3039 Unabridged (and doesn't seem to say "advanced" or "experimental"), it's even timeline appropriate (and tournament legal)!

Quote

As TRO:3039 is primarily aimed at new players, specifically those who just picked up the Classic BattleTech Introductory Box Set, the units in RS:3039 are primarily those available to the Inner Sphere and Periphery in 3039.

Dual arm-mounted ballistics hardpoints, dual torso-mounted energy hardpoints, and dual torso-mounted missile hardpoints on a low-profile and heavily-armored (and CASE-equipped) chassis with plenty of tonnage to play with!?
Cool.

The King Crab is more of a loveable underdog than "very popular" making it even more deserving to get in.Also: Better pictures and this quote from the MWO facebook page "I cannot guarantee it will be in game, but I am fighting tooth and nail to include it at some point."

I agree with the OP. Devs need to stop teasing us with Jagermechs and Catapult K2s and just bring on the King Crab. ;)

We do need ballistic hardpoints, but I think we can find many, many better equiped ones. The base KC has only 5 shots perc AC, and 8 for it's LRM rack. That means in 60 seconds of fighting, you are in a 100 ton, slow moving target with only a large laser to defend yourself.

True, we will probably be able to modify it to rectify that, but if one uses an Annihilator, Mauler, Banshee-S, Cyclops, Highlander or such, you get your ballistics in a package that is much better designed from the start, and that doesn't look horrendously dumb in the process.

Yeah, stock loadouts are highly relevant to MWO play. And the aesthetics are fairly subjective, we already have plenty of humanoid at the Assault mech end of the scale IMO.

That, for example, looks far more acceptable as a base for the ingame model. The King Crab is hardly the only mech with terrible, terrible TRO artwork.

That Crab/King Crab duo was drawn by FlyingDebris, aka Alex Iglesias, art lead for MWO. If it ends up in game, it'll probably look like that.
