Mechwarrior 4 in fact, had "additional spots" on mechs that were not the same as the torsos, arms, legs, ect... usually up to 2... a good example of this was on the Atlas, there was a leg mounted missile pod, essentially for the SRM 6 the stock loadout uses. IN MW4, you could blow that component out without destroying the mech. Another example is the Vulture/Mad Dog of MW4 design... it had a chin "turret" for laser mounts... you could destroy that without damaging the rest of the mech as well.

However for the most part, that kind of thing, just isn't a part of battletech in general.

id love to see stuff like that. pgi completely moved leg hardpoints to the torso, but id have liked to see hip level hardpoints. these would come in 2 varieties, the fixed variety which is just a pod sticking out of the hip axis, part of the leg but fixed to the torso. another which would be fully articulated, but consume a slot (and therefore only support single slot weapons since there are only 2 free slots in the legs) and would be like mounting the weapon in an arm with a lower actuator.

a ct chin turret be the same as a leg turret, except part of the ct, would take one slot and only support a one slot weapon. st turrets would take 2 slots and be able to mount any size weapon. the turrets would be linked to specific hardpoints however. on omnimechs the would be installable like lower arm actuators, and battlemechs would have them fixed.

and the way i see it if an offitial battletech artwork shows a turret there, it counts as being part of lore if not being part of the tt game and should be represented.
