Hey guys,

I know there's a ton of threads like that, but they do tend to outdate rapidly so here I am.

I noticed that medium mechs get the shortest queue and would like to play some more IS/Clan mediums because of that. Preferably not totaly close range mechs. I'm at tier 5.

Can you guys recommend some mechs that won't let me down?

Got premium cicada, Archangel centurion and a Hunchback II.

Cheers

Clans:
>Hunch IIC can be easily built for any range, best at mid to long range because of its hitboxes and agility
>Huntsman is a nice generalist
>Nova has some niche AMS and laser boating applications, also okay as a poptart

IS:
>Assassin is used by most people as an SRM bomber, but it can perform fine with mid range builds as well
>Crab is a decently durable laser boat
>Bushwacker is probably the most versatile one at the moment for any loadout based around ballistics and/or missiles (not enough energy hardpoints to be a laser boat)

EDIT: Wait you already mentioned the Hunchback IIC, oops.

Based on my experience the truly strong mediums:

vapin eagle (gauss vomit, dakka, ppcs, ATMs, you name it, dis thing can do almost any half decent build, but ofc its not out for CB yet so irrelevant)

bushwanker (SRM/dakka)

hunch2c (lazor puke+dakka)

huntsman (SRM/SSRM/ATM)

crab (MPL spam)

assasin (SRM, albeit i personally classify this as a light based on how its played so just listed it here as its technically a medium)

and now for some not ultra-meta but honorable mention since they can be very good at certain niches:

arctic wolf (SRM spam, ATM+ECM, rather squish but it can carry twice as many SRMs as a assasin and still have the DHS and ammo to use them)

shadowcat (2ERPPC, HLL+MG, very very hard to play and situationaly low DPS, but it can jumpjet and be a major pest if ur aim doesnt suck)

urbie (not technically a medium but about teh tankiest light there is and the cop hero carries 5 MPL deadly setup which is underestimated but quite solid)

shadowhawk (dakka fairly decent on here if you can keep that left torso from going poof)

almost every other medium can be used for something, but for all intents and purposes the above are the only ones ive personally managed to get anything out of or seen do very well in games. Stick to the ones up top for maximum carry ability, but the ones at the middle aint half bad either if you are willing to learn less meta playstyles.

A new addition is the Vulcan. The 5T and Bloodlust are right up there with the Assassin and Bushwacker as top tier for IS. It's the second most agile medium (behind the Viper), it's very XL friendly, and it's simply fantastic and deadly. The 5T has become my go-to medium.

The Bushwacker makes every other medium look like crap. If you got the cash, the Vapor Eagle is a good clan alternative, but the Bushwacker will still kick its ***.

In general terms, the Huntsman and Bushwacker are the big dogs of the medium mech class. I like the Vapor Eagle too, but it's still real money only for now.

Snuggles Time recently did a video on which medium mechs to buy:

For the most part I agree with the video; there are mechs that fill a niche well but if you try to take it out of the niche it will struggle. Once you get experienced with medium mechs you'll find other mechs you'll like but I think as a general rule the Bushwacker and Huntsman can work well for most people.

Bushwacker can do anything apart from Laser vomit, jumping or ecm.
Hunchback cause they look sexy as hell.
Griffin 2n ecm brawler
Crabs for energy

Its hard I have heaps of favorite IS mediums.

Bushwacker is easily #1.
Vapor Eagle is an ATM specialist.
Nova is the best SPL+micro boat in the game, especially the Hero.
Huntsman is a good workhorse if you don't know what you want to do.
Hunch IIC, Arctic Wolf and Assassin are also solid in their roles.

If you're not sure, I strongly recommend the Bushwacker X2 or X1.

Vulcans are nice, I have the Bloodlust, 5S and 6M - BL is one of my favorite light hunter (Does srms or streaks very well), 5S has very sexy UAC jam chance quirks - setting it up with a 200LE and a UAC20 is an amazing ambush or poptart mech but I ended up leaning more towards a UAC10 and MASC for getting out of tight situations quicker. The 6M has a generalized cooldown quirk that makes it nice for large bore AC/LBX, lasers or ppcs (one of my favorites had a 300XL and a heavy ppc).

And another vote for Bushwackers and Crabs... They are easily the most sturdy of Mechs available, allowing you to survive a fairly long time, which will in turn translate into more wins. :)

For the Crabs: The 27 for more utility (AMS), the 27 SL for more mobility (JJs) and the 27B for more firepower (another lased hardpoint).
For the Buswackers: X1 does the Triple RAC pretty well... X2 is quite nice with 2 LBX10 and 2 ERMLs.

The ATM build can be quite nasty, too, if you manage to stay at optimal range... Something I never managed. ;)

Huntsman on the clan side.
Bushwhacker on IS side is a hair short of being called “broken”.

Lot of good options here, I’ll put in another option though for clan, the Storm Crow. Can be set up as either a pulse boat or an SRM/SSRM boat depending on what pods you use - one cbill chassis, several excellent builds.

In quick play, the pulse laser build can target and rip apart components very fast, peek and poke from second line at 2-400m. It lives up to its name of crow by picking apart the carrion with accurate pulse lasers - find open components, rip them off.

The SRM variant brings high burst damage on a fast chassis, just remember to fire in two groups (torso and arms), so you don’t get ghost heat. The SRM build is my go-to for Scouting mode as well, in my opinion it’s better than anything but the Paraket on the clan side (which is an MC only mech).

True, but the thing is that you're better off with a faster mech that would give you the breathing room to get a lock and maintain the sweet spot.

But IF you get close enough, just volley 24 after 24, twist/shield, rinse-repeat, you'll wreck face. No minimum-range, just blitzkrieg.

Most of the mechs the others have mentioned are really good. I am a huge fan of the Assassin, but it does play like a light mech. However, it is one of the few mechs in the game that can use ECM, Stealth armor, jump jets, and still has enough different hardpoints to let you build a lot of different variations. When it comes to hit and run SRM mayhem, especially with the new tweaks to Stealth armor, you can't beat an Assassin. Run in behind, strip the backs with a burst from the SRMs, possibly follow up with whatever other weapons you have mounted, and run off before they can turn around. Great fun.

Want to do some PPC pop tarting? Huntsman.
Want to Gauss + ER medium laser drilling? Huntsman.
Want to do some splat scouting matches? Huntsman.
Want to get revenge on any Light mech that moves with streaks? Huntsman.
Say. How about that ATM action that the kids are screaming about? Huntsman.

Pakhet is probably my favorite mech in the game, with the Bounty Hunter II being a close second.

Well in my opinion the best Medium Mech ATM's are by far the ATM 6's.
