Time and relative time is, well racing cars, close to the ground or lorries, up in a cab.
Start at north pole and go down to the equator through a refernce point, eg...UK...now go left or right as far as you went down...then go back up...same starting place, but different facing...that physics and 3d geometry...
EDIT...
Here's a hyper-sphere in cyber-space trading in milliseconds...
And yes, you're welcome...

Hmm... maybe but the vast amounts of initial speed that you can get (or seem to get) when Arm-Lock is OFF is a better trade-off I feel. For instance, the mouse settings allow me to move across my mouse pad twice and even a slow torso-twisting mech like the Mauler without any torso mobility nodes, moves fast enough for me but with Arm-Lock ON, I have to swipe across my mouse pad 4 times to get the full twist.
Again, it could all be in my head but it seems like in 3rd person, I don't have to worry about the twist speed and dual targeting reticles. What I do is I toggle Arm-Lock ON and OFF when required. It hinders my twisting quite a lot but I haven't practiced twisting that much yet. Then again, apart for the first couple of months of playing MWO, I barely play the game anymore. My new mechs are rusting away *sigh*. Then again, this entire thing could be in my head as I only recently (re: a couple of weeks ago), loaded my game since I wanted to check out the Bludgeon but still haven't played a match.

The entire problem with arms-off is if your mech has body weapons because then...brain mess.
Now...there was a time when turn speed was connected to engine, but that all got changed as assaults got mullered.
I would say that arms are faster unlocked, but it really comes down to the ability to process the information you're processing. Be careful not to fight your enemy, your mech and yourself.

But again, is the 3rd person view torso twisting speed and single reticle thing only in my head? I'd still like to know that.

You have to compensate for your view change, erm, here, try this...
Short story, it's in your head, another example...
Best example,
In the 3rd person your mech should appear slower to the first.
This gives rise to questions of reflex.

Actually, though, the disappearance of dual reticle when in 3rd person view whilst Arm-Lock is still OFF is quite a thing, since I hadn't used 3rd person at all.
