Frankly, only build ive been able to get reliability out of is the 2 ua5 + 2 uac10 setup (with 2nd place going to the 1 uac20 + 2 uac10). Its the only truly optimized build which doesnt have ghost heat, and doesnt rely on high spread shotguns (as fun and satisfying as they are, you want damage that can be focused on a single component at long range on clam mechs that may as well all be made out of paper). then its a choice between a JJ and larger engine, but usually ive found that even a single JJ is well worth 3-4 KPH given the amount of terrain glitches in the maps still present and the fact that i can actually do very limited poptarting even with a single assault JJ in the mech (i only go engine when its a ranged map, but in cases like that, im not going to run a MCII anyways since there are better ERPPC/ERLL mechs for that niche).
As for best engine, i tend to use the XL325 as the lartgest engine in most builds since anything above the 330 start to become extremely inefficient with tonnage, and the whole point of assaults is to use all the available tonnage for heavy UACs and gauss, both of which need alot of ammo to function.
