Is PGI ever going to fix the decals not moving in sync with mechs..? I put decals in Hunchback IIC Deathwish's right torsos LB20x barrel. Bad move, since I can see the barrel from the cockpit in game, and the wiggle waggle the decals do when walking bothers me so much I had to remove them....
This isn't just Hunchies problem, as we all know, but many other mechs have this bug too (not sure if all, maybe mechs which dont have sway when they walk it doesn't happen). As a result of this, it is pretty pointless to spend time making your mech look cool and unique by applying decals, if your mech is going to look like a bowl of salad that is being shaken when you move in it in game anyways.
So we have had decals in-game for a quite a while now, so wouldn't it be a high time to actually make them work correctly already..? And yes, I know I should tweet Russ but I don't have Twitter account, nor am I going to make one just for this.
It's not a bug per-say... More so a limitation of the mechanics.
Long story short, the decals effectively "adhere" to the last polygon structure before it's culled. (This is why they bleed through poulderons to the underlying upper shoulder area...etc.) This is also why they sometimes "dance" as they are moving with the underlying structure.
Yeah, I know... Knowing why doesn't fix the issue but it at least provides a knowledge base as to where to and not to place decals.
I've noticed that putting a decal on the right shoulder of the Cyclops, on that grey square area, will often shift downward upon save. It happens consistently, despite my repeated attempts to make it stick where I want. I know I should just give up, but I have faith, dammit.

The issue is it has nothing to do with the Decal.
The decal is moving correctly, It follows the REAL cannon as it moves back and forth.
What you see is not the mech's real cannon. You see a fake in the cockpit.
(This is also why the shadows were wonky for missile doors, we're shown the shadows of the fake ones from the cockpit not the real ones on the mech...and they don't move...).
Here is the Hunchback. I know its not a Hunchback IIC but work with for a moment.
Notice the walk.
It has a lot of swagger, it sways side to side.
Now watch the cockpit.
No swagger, no sway. Nothing, it just tilts as it magically glides through the air with no bob or anything.
Now note THIS version of the cockpit....
What's happening here? Sway. Bob. Swagger. Thumps. Its got it all.
(Note the disorientation wouldn't be so bad if the pilot's head wasn't magically stationary while the pilot's body jostled around, seriously if the player looked down in that video your head would float above your neck...then your left shoulder, back, then the right shoulder, back...)
(This is, at least, why it happens to things you can see from the cockpit, when the decal fails to paste on both the proper mech and the "fake mech" in the cockpit view)
So why does the decal move? Because what you see in the cockpit DOES NOT MOVE when it SHOULD
How to fix it?
Make a lot of people cry by bringing back the "motion sickness inducing" "Accuracy decreasing (or would be if the weapons worked like real weapons rather than being focused by a magical perfectly gliding camera)" "real mech animations".

Taking into account that after literally years of not solving the floating shadows of weapon bay doors that also extended on to bolt-ons, and then "solving" the problem by removing the shadows completely... Do you want them to remove decals completely?
Cose' that's how you get them to remove decals completely..
You don't always have to pay for Decals.. they give them away in supply caches and in events.. just like everything else..
Yes, they practically give decals away. Although if you want now, you do have to pay out of your pocket. I have in the past before supply cache, and they are not cheap.

I've stopped spending real money on MWO after the Blood Asp fiasco.. I spend only event-earned MC..
