Was this really necessary?

They buffed AMS across the board by reducing missile health in larger volleys, fine.

But these mechs filled a unique niche in the game. 3x AMS NVA or KFX were by no means the best mechs, but the AMS ROF quirks helped provide added value to these chassis that other mechs don't have to make up the difference. Helped fulfill a player fantasy of being the walking anti-missile shield. Where is the logic in buffing AMS across the board, but reducing quirks on select already under-performing mechs?

Now every AMS system is just as good on any other mech as it is on these mechs.

I know its a bit of a nit-pick for me here, but these nerfs to unique quirks over the last 1.5 years or so have taken a lot of the magic out of different mechs, everything feels very "samey" these days.

To me, it really seems like an unnecessary change.

For years, some people have been asking for a generic robot shooter game. I guess they're finally getting it. <shrugs>

I totally agree.

The nova and KFX have to give up a lot in order to run that 3xAms. Its ******** to buff velocity, increase small volley health, and then turn around and nerf a niche mech.

Those triple AMS boats were pretty specialized builds that had to sacrifice cooling efficiency to get the tonnage for those AMS's (the KFX in particular is good ONLY at boating AMS and basically nothing else). Plus most of the time they'd never even run out of ammo so it would just be wasted tonnage. I doubt those builds would have been a real issue in the grand scheme of things.

That being said I'm much more concerned about the mechs that only had 1-2 AMS hardpoints that got nerfed. I mean really, nobody ever put AMS on their Javelin or Adder. Ever. The triple AMS boats can be somewhat justified in a quirk nerf (maybe, kinda pushing it) but the nerfs to those other mechs are unjustifiable.

Yes.

They are quite literally sporting 3 AMS, which most mechs don't exactly have. Not to mention the AMS buffs incoming, to counter their misguided missile velocity buffs.

So, yes. It was necessary, all things considering. The things being, they had to do it because they dug themselves into the grave.

Don't hate the player, hate the game. In this case, literally, hate the game.

They even nerfed my IS dual support Ams boats, JVN 10N and my WLF 1B. I loved playing those things. Lets hope the buff to Ams is enough. Press F to pay respect.

Does not surprise me and I got flamed for posting in regards to PGI's constant manipulation the mechs. Can't imagine why the mass departure from this game. They need to pay players to play now, MC anyone, please take the MC so we have players for drops!

I read the detailed PDF of the mech quirk changes. It says there that the component-based AMS quirks for the NOVA-S and NOVA-A/KFX-C were removed. HOWEVER, the NOVA-S received a 15% AMS RoF quirk to the set of 8 (+5% more), and the NOVA-A/KFX-C had their quirks moved to set of 8.

So they didn't remove it per se.

The Iron Dome Nova currently has 30% AMS RoF with three AMS hardpoints. It's a nerf.

Moving quirks to set of 8 is not adequate compensation when those full sets gimp their already sub-par firepower (especially the KFX, now you have to give up the Purifier high mounted lasers for full AMS quirkage).

yeah im disappointed they chose to remove the WLF-1B 20% AMS range quirk.

hell the slow removal of all AMS quirks over the last 3 years is frustrating, the BL-6-KNT once had AMS quirks as did the resistance Crab.

PGI: *nerfs almost all the 2xAMS and 3xAMS 'Mechs while adding a new 4xAMS 'Mech with an AMS range quirk behind a paywall...*

Guys, please. Nerfs coinciding with the release of a new shiny are already a running gag around here. Hire somebody to examine the optics of nerf passes before applying them at the same time as releasing a 'Mech which clearly represents powercreep in the exact same role as the nerfed 'Mechs, will you? Please?

Looking at the corsair, it seems like it needs it really badly. That being said, yes, it does seem to be their attempt of making corsair a bit more attractive by nerfing the rest.

This is the fate of most games sadly. Just look at my old favourite and worthy case study - World Of Warcraft. That game has had, over the years, its classes rebalanced and homogenized to the point of no return. It seems that, over time, developers slowly iron out any and all features and mechanics that truly make any aspect of a game stand out, all in the name of balance. Endless crying on forums leads to developers silently relenting, and as games age their original developers and pioneers leave to find the next new thing.

With all that melancholy said however, f*** that four AMS Corsair that's just money grabbing.

Except to get that set of 8 you have to drop the NVA-A side torsos and therefore two of the three AMS systems.

What I understand is that LRM5 health stays same, and everything larger than that has less health for missiles
but no real reason for these 3-4 AMS mechs to have rof quirk they already are the best AMS mechs in the game... + FW point of view IS doesn't have those (well corsair will be, but behind paywall for now)
  • The previous universal value will be set as a baseline and applied to LRM 5 launchers.
