Dread it, run from it, in the end destiny still comes.
I seem to be doing better with my free mech than you are with yours. I've learned that I can't aim HPPCs (Warhammer) worth a damn, but at least I'm not getting headshotted.

I actually bought the Nightstar 9S before the event started to try the dual UAC 20s. It's good and bad. Mostly bad. But still good. But bad. Good. But bad.

The nightstar has potential, but it just isn't worth playing right now with the current stable of IS assaults.
The wide arms do some weird **** with regards to convergence as well.

I got that Nightstar as my grand prize on Christmas . I have played it numerous times and never ever suffered a headshot .
I think there are worse mechs than the Nightstar .

I went for the Nightstar in the last free 'Mech event, because I didn't have one and wanted to try it.
It is now a very cool looking shelf queen because... Nightstar. The IS MCII, it ain't. I won't sell it, because at this point I don't need the spare mechbays and, hey, it could git gud in a future balance pass. Weirder things have happened. Plus it does still look cool.
This time I went for the Roughneck, because I already have and enjoy several of those, and another tanky brawly heavy is never a terrible thing to have. It was a toss-up between that and the Onion IIC, but in the end laziness won out over my sense of adventure. Maybe I'll pick up the Onion with cbills some time in the near future. Or in the next event. At least in the meantime I have a 'Mech I'll actually use. At some point.

What mech to pick... not sure, got almost all of those (multiples of the good ones) and most of the mechs that I don't have I'm not really interested in.
Might go for Roughneck or maybe my 3rd MX90.
For some reason HPPCs are pretty hard to hit with, took me maaaaany games to learn correct lead with my HPPC jumptard grasshopper.

Fun builds I've found for my 9P; 2 RAC/5 (or 3 RAC/2, personal preference) and 1 AC/20. Obligatory 4 LB-10s. Also, 1 LB-20 and 3 LB-10s can just barely squeeze in it if you don't mind having basically no ammo and just want to meme. Use an AC/20 instead if you want to carry a decent amount of ammo. 2 Ultra 10s and 2 RAC/2s is fairly okay.

I don’t put ballistics in the arm - they are rubish and I end up shooting too many friendlies next to me in the back.
2AC20 + 2LL work just fine for me.
