Epic take less revenue than Steam it's true. But people seem to ignore that Steam has a system by which developers can take advantage of the great platform, while completely bypassing the revenue % cut. By selling their game on their own site and providing Steam keys to keep your library organized.
Not to mention Epic has been caught out doing a few shady things, like pulling Steam user data. (Though shame on Steam for not storing that encrypted)
You're not wrong, but Epic isn't there yet. I mean, competition in a market is generally good for a consumer. Steam being challenged may push them to innovate more. But at this point I find Steam a very mature and well thought out platform. Plus their sales are great. I've bought more games for under $5 that I'll never play than I can count.

wow, look at all those features i neither want nor need. i for one want less platforms and more games.

I have a feeling that, if MW5 did go Epic Exclusive, it would be because Epic threw a LOT of money at PGI to do it. In theory, enough money to counter the lack of sales from switching to an exclusive deal.
Phoenix Point had stated that if every backer requested a refund, they would still have enough money to go forward with the game and release it without any financial setbacks. This makes me think that Epic has given them so much money, they are covered when it comes to the fallout. It may look bad in the eyes of their loyal backers, but financially, they are covered and will make a profit.
I think that is the case with all the games that went exclusive. I think the savings from Epic's take vs Valves take, plus the mountains of cash Epic gives them to go exclusive, will not only offset any lost revenue from lost sales, but will also give them a little extra on top of that. After all, why go exclusive just to lose money and sales. Epic needs to really sweeten the pot to convince devs and publishers to make the leap.
So, if PGI was offered an exclusivity deal, or sought one out with Epic themselves, they would want enough money from Epic to off set the lost revenue and then some from going that route.
It may look bad from a fanbase/consumer standpoint, but I think a lot of these companies assume that outrage is short term and easily forgotten, so they just assume that their actions will be forgotten by the time the next title is announced. It sounds crappy to say, but look how many times a company like EA screws up a launch/game (looking at you Anthem) and people still buy millions of copies, and still get hyped for the next botched game/launch.
In any case I hope PGI doesn't get an exclusive deal with Epic. If they do though, it will be a deal that will make sure the game is a success for PGI in the income department regardless of fan outrage. Money will not be a problem. PGI would also need to bank on the community forgiving them when it comes to the next title.
Also as food for thought... If PGI thinks they will NOT get the BattleTech contract extensions from Microsoft, I can definitely see them not worrying about fan backlash if it is the last title they create for the franchise. That may make them more likely to take an Epic exclusive deal if it is available/possible.

No, it's just the current industry wide discussion. There's no evidence that PGI is going to do this, or that Epic would even be interested in shelling out for the game. Hell, for all we know, the license agreement for Mechwarrior prohibits PGI from this kind of 'backroom' dealing.

There are no facts, because no such thing has been announced by either PGI or Epic.
This thread is pure speculation coming from Epic's current practice of buying exclusives and an assumption that PGI's playerbase would be large enough to matter to Epic.

Still, I do hope that PGI doesn't go the Epic route regardless.

Unless Epic was willing to sweeten the deal by promoting the game too, but I don't see them doing that for a niche franchise like this.

They look at the founder program cashing in 5 million dollars from 80 000 founders and Battletech making 1 million sales in a year, and any notion of reasoning shuts down because BIG NUMBAH ™.
I recently had an argument with one such person - they kept insisting the community is large enough to make the Mechwarrior IP an attractive target for another publisher / developer if PGI lost the license, and absolutely refused to process the basic fact that in today's gaming industry studios get shitcanned for failing to cross five million sales, or about thirty times as much revenue (you can ask Visceral).

Because it's a hot topic at the moment and something a lot of people see as an issue industry wide, even if the chances of MW5 becoming involved in it are slim, so there's quite a few people who are worried/have opinions on it.

Decentralization and having that become the norm is a very bad thing. Imagine having a building full of pcs and each one had just one or two programs you wanted to use. You can't load them all into one computer because each program only works on the computer its already on. What a pain in the ***.

Also Steam does allow user reviews (at time of posting), epic has no plans to add this feature as well. Also Epic is owned by Tencent a Chinese Conglomerate so expect a higher degree of censorship, and more 3rd party peeking inside the users computer.

I settled on Steam 16 years ago and I have the EA launcher from way back when too. As far as third party store launchers go if it's not available on one of those two or on the Xbox I just don't play it. I have enough of them already. I also dislike the exclusives thing. I'll just wait until it's not exclusive anymore and buy it when it's 75% off on some future sale. Or not play it. I have 200 something games in back log anyway. Not gonna run out of pass time hours in the near future. Finally I won't support anything that Tencent has it's claws in.
EA's old launcher is dead, now it is origin, attempting to run the old launcher will trigger it to switch to Origin, at least when I loaded BF3 it did.

I believe the last games I played on PC that EA made were Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3 and BF2. I'll pick up a copy of Madden and FIFA once every 5 years or so on the Xbox. They really haven't made much that's drawn my eye in years.
