So I was thinking about getting a Dire Wolf. I was thinking the Dire Wolf prime because it has 8 energy hardpoints for laser vomit. I'm looking for something thats going to hit pretty hard. I'm open to other ideas.

Dire wolf isn't a great laservomit mech, because of its freight train agility it's best to use with some combination of dakka. 2xuac10, 3xuac5 is a thing

If you want a clan laservomit assault I'd suggest looking at mad2c or supernova

As an omnimech, the Dire Wolf can mix and match non-CT hit locations between its variants (thus giving it very flexible hard point selection). As such, if you are interested in hard points, it's best to look at the CT. The Prime doesn't have any CT hard points, the B has a single energy hard point, the W has 2 energy hard points, the UltraViolet Hero has a missile hard point, and the S has a missile hard point and a fixed jump jet.

Direwhales have hit boxes the size of Texas. A blind man can hit you. PGI nerfed Clan Lasers, exactly because of the DW-Prime. People were doing laser vomit builds, which were supremely effective. So to reward the good play of those adopters, PGI reduced the damage, raised the heat and made it almost impossible to Laser Boat anything Clan. So far, the only successful builds I've seen on the DW is a mix of lasers, ballistic and AMS. Though the scarcity of LRMs these days almost makes AMS irrelevant.

If you really want a Direwhale, you should go with Dire-W, it has energy hardpoints in CT as well and that is not something you can swap out into other variants.

If you want to do Clan Laser Vomit by a Marauder IIC.
Better speed/agility/hit boxes than the dire and it got 8 energy hard points as well.
Sample build for maximum feasible laser vomit alpha:

If you are really set on running the prime with lasers, you can run 2 ER LL, 6ER ML, and 2 Gauss all on the arms. You have to watch your heat and you are slow but if you know what you are doing it can be solid.

Or you insane love walking the 99% heat thresh hold change the erll for hll and watch most mechs back off after you shoot your first alpha and follow up with gause for a second or two before going for another big boi alpha.

lbx 2 or 5 - lots of them with a barrage of er small lasers to deal with the lights who think they can stand in front and under you with impunity.

UAC50 Nasty Wolf is a complete freight train to opposing mech’s tail pipes...

UAC20 x1
UAC10 x2
UAC5 x2

100% plowage, laser vomit trash in comparison on this mech.

That in my opinion is the scariest dire wolf you can possibly play with . laser dire wolves don't hold a candle to this monster .

best Dire you can get for QP
-is a MadCat or BAS.
srsly ;)

dire is useful in FW and maaaaybe usable in S7, but I wouldn't take one to QP ever again.
just too slow. also the 11 guys you drop with think "it's a dire, he can protect himself.. " and wander off.
the 12 guys on the other side see you and focus you down faster than you can say nascar.

to be fair, there are ofc QP-matches where you can run it, and run it well. the norm however is death by nascar.

Get a marauder IIC instead. A Mad-Cat also works better.

I've been looking for something that hits hard but also doesn't have to be right up in someones face. I'm bad at brawling and bad at mechs like locusts which are fast but dont do alot of damage and if arent careful about what mob they run into, get squished easily. I want something reliable, which i know the term is objective. I usually hide and poke my head out and shoot. Anytime I stand with an opponent, regardles of what build im using and which mech, i get dropped. lol

I can't recommend a Dire Wolf, they are very slow. There are so many complains from Dire Wolf Players that the Team is leaving them behind.
My slowest Mech is a Fafnir with 56 kph (Speed tweak) and Ecm. This two Things can compensate the slow Speed to some Degree.

Both Fafnir and Dire Wolf is plain bad IMHO, at least for QP. It is very often that the 100 ton garbage truck got left behind when the game start / run into nascar, and get picked by enemy's lights, dont expect your team to wait for you / help you if you are in trouble, more often than not you are not going to get any help, asking for help in voip wont help. Personally i would just avoid anything slower than 60kph for QP....Yes sometimes the garbage truck is great, but its performance is not consistent.

Dire Wolf aside, Timber Wolf is hardly below average, there are plenty of Clan mech performs below it. While it is true that it is no longer meta after numerous nerfs (and engine desync, cXL ST loss heat spike and etc.), but it is still an "okay" choice at least (The recently released Warhammer IIC series is really below average, with the free giveaway hero variant, Bludgeon being a really "bad" mech with no real strength / interesting elements worthwhile to play with at all)
