Well, This Is Highly Unfortunate

1. More people used Comms in every match
2. More people were open to ideas and actually followed through on what they said they'd do
3. Cracked a joke or two when they died and kept the spirits up despite losing to a stomp
4. All types of ranges were covered whereas now, the action takes place at 400m minimum (the saving grace is Domination or the new-old maps)
5. People actively try to use others as shields and block the people in front instead of working together
I could list more reasons but those are the most aggravating. Is this 'cause the MM keeps T5 and 4 in one pool and T3, 2 & 1 in another pool to put teams together, occasionally mixing all of them if the population is low? I remember T5 and 4 being enjoyable and felt like it was a team-based game whereas now, it's like "Every MW for themselves". It is so rare to relive those experiences again and I wonder what it's like further up.
I started using the Orion IIC after the Hellbringer to complete this weekend's events. The matches that I played before didn't matter 'cause the Hellbringer was a maverick than a team player. But the Brawling Orion has left me feeling that the sooner I skill it up, the sooner I can stop using it. Luckily, the matches were OK and I have 61 points skilled up.
But yeah, the big post is just something that probably is repeated a lot and I'm adding this to the archives. Don't get me wrong. I like the Orion IIC, and the matches, despite the stomps where I barely did 250 damage 'cause I was the only eejit leading the push, were still something I reflected upon and told myself to try other tactics in the next match and so on. Overall, I shudder at the fact that apart for rare matches where people co-operate, call out targets, engage in good tactics and open Comms, a large majority of the matches will be soulless and not even mech packs and events could improve the bad feeling from now on.

If you have over 100k matches, abandon all hope.

In fact, I would argue that when you do hear comms as a Tier 1, most of the time it just creates confusion and team splitting which results in a stomp. I don't know the people making the calls or what tier they are of course.

It truly is amazing just how much more friendly and chill those people are compared to the tier 1 folks.

But yeah, players were more friendly and laid back. I never once got a "**** team FFS!!!" from a teammate, only ever a "well, we will get them next time."
It's less the use of coms for me, because I have had some amazing games where nobody ever said a word and everybody just knew what to do. It is the lack of salt and the lack of toxicity. If you show up with a weird build, nobody tells you that you suck, they say "Okay, show me what you can do with that."
I know that MWO is considered relaxed by what FPS people are used to, but I have been playing MMORPGs for over 20 years, people are much more friendly there.

I have heard this a lot but I think there is a misconception over who the angry ones are. I have a dumb habit of looking salt-lords up on Jarl's list. 90% of the people who flip out on comms or in chat are people who are not or should not be in tier 1. By in large it's not the try-hard high performing guys who are yelling at their team (though there are a few annoying exceptions). It's usually the guys who are frustrated because they did poorly and are looking to externalize the blame.
People who do well are usually pretty mellow because they're satisfied with their individual performance, or they tend to internalize blame.
I guarantee you if you could graph it you would see a salt bell curve. Low salt for beginners and casual player population. High salt out of that population that's struggling in the middle, and then back to low salt for people who perform well or play with other good players.

Tiers are NOT skill bars or quality bars. They're game match score grind bars. Eventually everyone gets to Tier 1 if they grind long enough.

Actually that the truth. With very few exceptions, although I see open whining extremely rarely myself, most who go down on comms like that are guys who died in first 5 mins with below 100 damage. I've rarely seen guys with good score trashtalking over the comms or in chat.
