Would a GOL-1H GOLIATH make an interesting choice for the next Assault Mech?

quads wont work with the game engine the way it is currently i dont think

Probably not yet. Though it's a matter of adding code, which once done, pretty much sets them up for using any other quad designs in the future. Still and all I expect that it will be a long time, if ever, before Quads show up. Nothing wrong with reminding folks they are out therre, though.

How would the Goliath function seeing what we know about how aiming works in MWo.

For those who don't know...

You aim the torso by pointing the arms so you have two targeting reticules one on the arms one for body mounted weapons. The arm reticule leads the torso so pointing the mech's arms right would have the torso swing right until both reticules aligned.

Goliath has no arms and no torso to twist.Would likely put it at a huge disadvantage.

You can still have the weapons show a limited amount of slew. They would probably need to add keybinds for sidestepping, though.

I for one would welcome quad mechs. Load me up in a tarantula. Mo more tripping.

4 legged mechs are still 5 times better than protomechs or even the NON-canon 3 legged 120 ton Ares

Give it a few years, I wouldn't rule 3 legged mechs out yet. We have superheavies now.
I guess that is a discussion better held at bg.battletech.com/forums though.

the only super heavy is the ares and its the only 3 legged mech but no one in their right minds would ever consider a canon mech

Why all the hate for the Timberwolf/Mad Cat?

Its ubiquitousness can be irritating at times.
Everyone and his Dog seems to like the Timberwolf for some reason hailing it as the perfect "Mech. Granted, It's a solid design with good pod sets, but there's lots of other great 'Mechs to love.

The Ares is canon; it's just really, really stupid.

Pray that Catalyst Labs makes the 'Mech an in-universe joke once they pick up the Dark Age storyline again; an ill-conceived design that exemplifies the Lyran stereotype of firmly believing that 'bigger is better', in ignorance of all other considerations.

Amen.

I for one would not be upset if the ARES, as well as protomechs, and such, kinda were conveniently forgotten... definitely relegated to the failed "experimental level 3" tech stuff never again to see the light of day.......

I thought it was obvious that the Ares was an homage to War of the Worlds. Just with a touch of Battletech to make it more interesting. Don't believe me, see for yourself.

They sure don't look alike, but they are similar to some degree (3 legs, huge).
If you know which on of these came first, it's a rather obvious connection to make. Thought I'd point you in the right direction. BT drew inspiration from many sources and the Ares is no exception. No need to hate, really.

Quads will be absolutely annihilated by anything with a modicum of speed and torso twist (literally everything else). Unless you can think of a good way to control multiple turrets on a single monitor with any effectiveness, there's just nothing that will make quads playable in this game.

I'm one of those people who refuses to believe the ares should ever be considered canon

it would be an interesting addition but then they would have to make a new set of animations for it so i doubt it will make a showing any time soon.

Regrettably, the process of determining what is and isn't canon does not work like illusions in a game of Dungeons & Dragons; the Ares is not going to simply vanish into the aether, no matter how hard you choose to disbelieve. Unless The Powers That Be say otherwise, it's existence in the BattleTech universe is an immutable, and very unfortunate, fact.
