The new MAD-4L looks amazing with stealth & ecm. However, I'm confused about its HSL quirk.

The quirk is "ER PPC HSL +1"
The ER PPC already has a heat scale of 2...
So to get any benefit from this quirk, it would have to mount 3 ER PPCs and fire them simultaneously.
However, the 4L only has 2 energy hard points on the whole mech.

Therefore it looks like the MAD-4L can't get any use from this quirk at all.

Is that correct?
Am I missing something in how Heat Scale and the HSL quirk function?

Remember, ERPPC + Gauss Rifle are GH linked. It allows you to fire 2 ERPPC + GR or 2 GR + ERPPC without GH penalty. Usually though it is the Clan mechs that generally equip such payloads, not IS mechs for a variety of reasons, mostly due to weight/slots, ie Clans being lighter and fewer slots (and ERPPC having that splash damage) and running cXL that does not blow apart when the first ST dropped.

From July 2017 patch notes

Quote

Inner Sphere and Clan Standard Gauss Rifle
• Heat Penalty group is now linked with PPC.

Gauss Rifle Design Notes: For some time now, Gauss/PPC combinations have skewed much higher than nearly every other weapon combination when it came to pure pinpoint damage and kill potential. As a result, we've had to balance all Gauss and PPC weaponry changes around that combination, rather than what was best for the weapons individually. This was a mentality we carried with us into the New Tech PTS testing, attempting to preserve the weapon combo. That testing showed the various Gauss/PPC combinations provided with the release of new tech reliably outperformed nearly everything else on the PTS; when taken outside the combinations however, the individual weapons vastly under-performed from where we wanted them to be.

As a result, and with the current behavior of the combinations prior to the release of new tech also in mind, we have re-evaluated our stance on the combinations. This change will link Gauss and PPC weaponry together for the purpose of scaling Heat penalties. This will allow us to better balance the individual weapons as needed in the future, both within the existing lineup of weaponry, and with the new weapon types introduced in this patch.

Gauss is in the ppc family for ghost heat. This lets you fire the gauss without incurring the ghost heat penalty.

But its specifically coded for ER PPC and regular gauss together... it doesn't work with heavy or light gauss, nor does it work for with light, regular, heavy or snub PPC's in concert with gauss rifles.
