Computers like the TSR80 were king. Typewriters were manual and White Out was a miracle from God. The internet of today didn't exist.

Back in my day we thought that "the next map" might actually have different routes that only some mechs could take to make the gameplay more interesting.

cresent hawk inception was the coolest game out.

I was drawing giant robots all over my school notebook. Parents thought they were too big a distraction for homework and are too violent for children. But they sure kicked *** like no other. Today, things feels like 1000x less epic.

Back in my day, the only manual you had was key mappings. And you had to test things in combat.
Back in my day, you had only 2 mechs in each weight class: Commando vs. Jenner, Hunchback vs. Centurion, Dragon vs. Catapult, and Atlas vs. Awesome. And one of each of these was superior so if you had 2 Commandos instead of 2 Jenners, your team would suffer.
Back in my day, there was no "Host State Rewind." You had to guess if your shots would hit with lagshield fully deployed.
Due to no HSR, everyone pretty much used lasers because they did damage over time and you could adjust the aim until you hit the target.
Back in my day, Raven 3Ls reigned supreme with streaks that did extra damage (due to area of effect), a magic Jesus box (ECM), and a lagshield that make them nearly invincible. Shoot the legs with lasers!
Back in my day, people complained because the Centurion AH was removed from the game to be replaced with the Yen Lo Wang. You could no longer level up Centurions unless you owned all 3 and one you had to use real money for (that was an unfair move for sure).
Back in my day, Alpine was played. A lot. And you'd max out time because the last enemy spider was ER Large Lasering from halfway across the map in the hills.
Back in my day, you could go up and down hills without slowing down. Even in an Assault.
Back in my day, you could hit the spawn points in River City when the match started, and if you had your graphics levels low enough, buildings would disappear.
Back in my day, smurf vision was the only vision.
Back in my day, 30 pinpoint damage was unfair, but that's what Gausscats had. "Catapults shouldn't have gauss because the hardpoint is a machine gun! You can't fire a big gun out of such a small hole." So PGI created dynamic weapon art (later) instead.
Back in my day, there was no matchmaker other than equal weigh classes. ELO came next.

In MWO terms: Back in my days there were light mechs which were really OP (can you imagine an OP Huginn?)
