Lets plan an ambush.
Only works in scouting or end stages of a drop where there's only a handful of surviving mechs on the other side.
In any other situation it takes mechs away from combat operations and gives initiative over to the enemy.
TL;DR : Don't do it.

Small gotcha: if nobody is listening, then trying to execute that maneuver by yourself just gets you killed faster. Sometimes the only option is to go with the flow and try to make the most of a terribad situation.

in some situations i have a tactic that actually works, abandon the team. especially if they get holed up into a bad location and are just going to trade themselves to death. its actually a perfect environment for catching the enemy off guard. one time i even managed to circle wide enough it an assault mech, get some kills on the flank and open up a path to victory for a bunch of guys who would have thrown the game otherwise. in most organized situations that would have been seen as a selfish **** move or simply a bad idea, but in the presence of taters its totally viable.

i would have been completely useless in the situation the team put me in anyway. my weapons were beyond effective range and it was a really bad spot. my only other option would have been wait till the people holding up the pack with their trades die and then either push a few players down or get pushed. trading is useless if half your team either cant or wont participate.

"Let's follow my plan" followed by some overly complicated by the numbers drill that many don't understand much less want to execute, then followed by battle distracting complaining about how no one wants to work together.

Been done lots in past and they were fun. Lights lure in the enemy and then the fun begins. Pilots today, do not know how. New pilots do not know what Ambush means. Can not be done anymore. Only attack, forward, center, go theta, nothing else. Fun is gone. Conquest was best for ambushes. Then Skirmish mode, then assault mode. Only domination can never be done. Just waiting to turn on your mech from being shut down. Then surprise!.

Sigh. Again, devoting a significant chunk of your team's forces to a passive ambush attempt doesn't work in the 12v12 scenario - there's too much firepower on the enemy side for you to be able to afford gimping your team in that fashion until both teams have been whittled down to about 6 players or less.

If your idea of "surprise" is getting cored out before your mech can fire back a shot, then certainly. Otherwise, using an ECM is vastly preferable as it allows you to retain control over the situation.

Today, Ambush can not be done. Not no more. Even if someone says, "lets plan an ambush", not going to happen. And if anyone goes alone, many will complain "What is he doing?" Crimson strait was the best for Ambushes, "in my days." And yeah, my buddies and I did surprised, scared the enemy mechs. Told bad you were not there. ;-) one reason why they moved Sigma cap on Crimson strait? To many ambushed on that cap for conquest. Gamma is another good one. Also, why would anyone get cored, when powering up. Before that can happen, a friendly would give out information enemy is getting close. Tactical was fun and yeah in QP. Today, nope. Bring up a plan or tactics, or command,.... Nope.

Early days of better fun, on MWO. Older days, their was no nascar. Was, but very, very little.

Another, waiting while shutting down.

I'd agree. The guy who says, "Don't Nascar" if often the first one to start the Nascar.

I agree. It doesn't seem like it would make that much difference, but the game has changed a lot just by expanding from 8 man teams to 12 man. It definitely changes the strategy.

there isn't any strategy (left) in QP; except you consider the constant 'flank right everybody' one.

I hardly ever see that Posted Image
Actually those guys are smart, they say "don't nascar", but their ready for it as it's a common stratergy FTW

Most often I see the dont nascar guys get sub 150 damage in a slow assault mech, the faster assault mechs dont seem to have much of a problem with nascar. Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image
