The XL and Light 100 Engines have identical stats, except the XL engine costs more and requires more slots.

Just wanted to point it out, since there's currently no advantage to using the XL 100 over the Light 100, so maybe it's a bug or something.

And why would you put either of those to any mech ever?

I hear pilots equipping the xl 100 on the Rifleman IIC have enjoyed a modest improvement in the 'Mechs speed.

I don't think there's a lot of 100 LFE UrbanMech pilots out there thinking "damn, my build needs just one more ton to work, why won't PGI fix the 100 XL, so I can run a 54 kph SuicideBox."

I'm not sure how many of the really light engines have incorrect weights, but I doubt anyone would use them even if PGI fixed them.

If you stuck a 100 engine in a 20-ton light you'd only go 81 kph. It's a useless engine rating.

However, the maths are in fact wrong in MWO. By BT rules the XL100 is 1.5 tons. MWO rolls in gyro and cockpit tonnage, bringing this expected value up to 5.5 tons total. In MWO, the initial weight of the XL100 is 0.5 tons but you need to spend 6 tons on heatsinks, therefore bringing your engine weight up to 6.5 tons. The XL100 is thus 1 ton overweight.

The LFE100 however is spot-on correct. It's supposed to be 6.5 tons with all factors accounted for (2.5 ton engine + 1 ton gyro + 3 ton cockpit).

The reason for this disparity is because PGI didn't want to give the XL100 negative tonnage (should be -0.5 tons upfront, or 5.5 tons after you add your heatsinks), but since they gave us the STD60 engine this excuse is no longer really justified.

How FupDup got some of his numbers but he may have flipped a few signs .. or I have had a few too many tonight...yeap, I had a few too many. He was comparing the 100 LFE to 100 XL...

Due to the fact the 1st 10 Heatsinks of a Mech are Technically Part of the Engine it self. This is why there is a Rule of 10 on Heat sinks. Also In CBT the Core Critical Engine Slot in a Mech can house 1 Heat sink for every 25 Rating this Engine Has.

Thus engine ratings of 245 have to equip engine HS outside the engine. In BT, engine HS does not equate to 1 ton, but for PGIs MWO, to make it work for builds, they are 1 ton with said weight subtracted from the engine weight.

And in BT engines are rated only at whole or fifty percent. For a 100 rated engine, as noted for BT, 2.5t + 3t (cockpit-default tonnage) + 1t (gyro wt = engine rating/100) == 6.5t w/4 internal eHS and 6 external eHS (no additional weight in BT, only crit slots).

MWO engine/gyro/cockpit - external eHS = 0.5t MWO 100 LFE wt
1t = Gyro
3t = Cockpit
- 6t = external eHS
2.5t BT engine wt

1t + 3t+ 2.5t - 6t = 0.5t MWO 100 LFE

****
One will notice that there is only a STD 60 engine rating, which is a neg 2.5t for MWO 60 STD engine rating.

1t gyro + 3t cockpit + 1.5t 60 STD = 5.5t ... External eHS 8 external eHS = 5.5t -8 = neg 2.5t

---

As for the engine weight. XL weight 50% less than STD. LFE weights 25% less than STD. Engines come in either whole number or whole number and 1/2 there are not quarter fractions.

BT 100 STD = 3t
3t * 0.5 = 1.5t XL
3t * 0.75 = 2.25t rounded to 2.50t LFE

edit He was comparing the 100 LFE to 100 XL... Wasnt the 100 rated engine in before Urbie was introduced with its 60 STD engine....? /having another drink!!!!

Yeap, it was with the game back in 2012, that is when the discrepancy was caught but there were no mechs that actually came stock with it afaik.

I just looked in SSW to make it easy.
