Hey guys. So a weird thing keeps happening to me every so often. MWO will put my mechs into a match without me, sometimes mechs I'm in during another match. I came to discover this when a friend of mine was playing in a separate game and asked why my mech was in his game to. This has happened quite a few times and I get stung by the AFK penalties, despite the issue being totally out of my control.

I submitted a ticket regarding this to the devs quite some time ago, but never got a response. Which has left me scratching my head and asking is this a known issue? I did a google search to see if others were having it, but was unable to find any results.

It's not Phantom Mechs, it's Uber. They rented your mechs to fill up the slots

I must say that there was one other player who posted a similar thing. It was a month or so ago, so it'd be hard to dig up that topic. I'll leave that to the necromancers here.

dig deeper, others have mentioned observing the same behavior. There was a longer post with multiple replies a couple of months ago.
Please clarify on what happened as it's a little unclear. Are you implying that you were on 3rd party comms (TS or Discord) with your friend and let him know you were in a separate match, or did your friend notify you that you were in a match and were AFK. Were you on the same team, or not. etc etc.

I posted screen caps and have a video recording of that happening to one of the streamers. I (and others) attempted a sync drop with her. I didn't get the match she was live streaming... i did get her in my match though as a 0 ping mech on my team at the same time she had found a match and was playing it with 23 other players.

When I initially discovered the issue, I was on third party comms (Discord). My friend and I were sync launching like we usually do to try an get into the same game. Initially he thought we were in the same game as I was in his lobby, but he wasn't in mine. Turns out we were both in different games on different maps, but my mech was in his game as a disconnect, despite me being in that same mech at that very same time in a different game.

I also notice now further when I go to launch a game, and it'll give me the option launch with the current mech or rejoin the game I was apparently in. Last night I actually rejoined the game I was never in, and sure enough I was able to and play like normal.

For the longest time I was getting the 10 second penalty for abandoning games even though I wasn't. Initially I put this down to a simple bug, but as it turns out its due to this 'phantom' mech bug.

I'm concerned I'm getting reported and maybe even losing player skill tier from it, which is frustrating because the fault is totally out of my control.

Yep seen this a few times, no evidence like a video or screenshot, but in some rare instances people are appearing in 1 match, and at the same time also in another, but that other match it's a DC.

Kinda hard to document a match with screenshots when you aren't actually in it, after all

There isn't much for me to screenshot. 90% of the time I'm not aware of it occurring, not until I get a penalty for seemingly no reason.
