So you did not like the Locust? Perhaps I misread your post.

I miss the Grid Iron's 50% Guass cooldown. That was hilariously fun.

It made the Locust FUN. Something niche, different, unique. I mean yeah it was annoying to play against but it let people do fun stuff.

50% Gauss is probably a bit much though.

Nah, it's just like a pair of LGR with a 10% CD buff + skills, only without weighing 24 tons.

It was not OP at all on the Grid Iron, but PGI gonna PGI.

Yeah it'd be nice if PGI would quirk a mech to do something fun but not OP.

Well, that would have been a great way to implement with the "skill tree". Mech specific boni that can be unlocked with experience, like you know, getting to know the mech better in time. All the small things that would make this game enjoyable again.

Nostalgia is a primary motivation . I dont care how good it performs . Discount can also factor into that . I recall making this account my first mechs I really wanted was King Crab , Catapult and locust . I bought catapult and locust but I bought a Mauler before the King Crab because mauler it was on discount and nostalgia .

King Crab .......mw2 mercs
Catapult .........mech commander
Locust ..............mw
Mauler ............cartoon .

For unknown mechs its a cool factor reason .

Meta Mechs ? Well good ping , fully skilled up , custom builds and 11 other players decide the game . Not the meta mech.

Nothing now. I use to buy every mech pack released; from open beta with Phoenix pack to December 2016 with Rifleman. Then I stopped and started to cherry pick the best mech for competitive. After that I have not bought a mech pack since early 2018 with the Blood Asp. I doubt I will spend a single penny on the game again, and I have not and probably will not get MW5 due to PGI's continued unproductive development of MWO. Tell me did engine de-sync help the game? Did the new skill tree expand the player base? Having gone to stock mechs with Mech Championship change competitive MWO for the better? Did mech re-scale fix any issues the community had with game play?

Short answer, nope. The long answer why? Well all any of these things did was change which mechs were "good", or changed a "niche" portion of the game. Without fully expanding the game like some features, Faction Play and Solaris, this game would have died a long time ago. Sadly though Solaris came out after way too long of burning the player base. Faction Play on the other hand never got right in the way of balanced matches making MWO's only way to survive obsolete.

As for how the player base issue could have been solved would have been advertising, by growing the player base the game would have more players to fill its "buckets" to have more chances at balanced matches. Instead we got NGNG's response, "Faction Warfare is for units only unless you want to get stomped." I disagree with that statement because of the solution was there but just never capitalized on. Thus allowing the players to get burned again. Examples of a big player base would have solved this issue is check out the Tukayyid events which encouraged players to play Faction Warfare even though those same players would sometimes get put in an unbalanced matches, but they also ran into a high frequency of balanced matches.

From a consumer perspective, I don't think there's enough information about a mech to make me buy all the new mechs. Sean Lang does a video about the new mech a day before release. The pre-order boni are done by that time. So, there's me not having bought the mech pack 'cause PGI's business model makes no sense.

Advertise the mech better. Give out some information. There will be, I'm sure, people interested in seeing how a mech operates even in the early, low poly, rough-edge state. Just give out that information. Then, let the pre-order boni be active right up until the final patch before the mech is released. I think this should've been crystal clear.

I have a hard time passing up IS medium mechs in general, though at this point I'm a little more picky.

Nostalgia, aesthetics and play style possibilities are the big ones for me especially if it also does something special or different.

I've never spent money on this game. I bought a Dire Wolf UV recently because it was the only mech on sale that could dual mount Clan AC/20s for the Weapon Expertise event, but I did it using MC I got for buying MW5.

Never just buy a mech. Buy Mechbays for 300MC then grind up the Mechs you want for c-bills

Unless, you want a hero mech.

It used to be nostalgia. Now that Russ has publicly admitted that MWO is going on life support, nothing gets me interested in buying a 'mech.

That's what I normally do, but due to pre-ordering MW5, I have plenty of MC and still have several empty Mech Bays.

And I really wanted to complete that event. So I upped and actually bought a Clan mech despite otherwise being a dedicated Inner Sphere player.

Buy them for 150 on sale. As for hero mechs, most of mine are from events or bought with event gold.

As for the main question of what gets me interested- mostly watching streamers use one in a playstyle that suits me. After that, it's ones that are moderately fast and have decent hardpoints.

Mech specific skill nodes would be cool.
