Well. That's descriptive. I completely understand what you are talking about now!
Umm... Just so everyone else also knows, mind explaining this more?
(PS: Also, is this a general "bug" in the game, or something specific to "Academy Bug Reports"?)

I was curious about this post so I took my 8xmg cheetah into a test map. I killed a ctf in12.5 seconds. I then took the same mech, this time mounted with 8xHMG it took 15.6 seconds to finish the mech. All shots were ct at 75m

You'd need to repeat that more than once and get an average. The thing with MGs is their crit chance, which is random. So you HMGs may have had a string of poor "rolls" on their crit chance...
FYI: Not saying there may be an issue, just that we don't know enough to say otherwise right now.

Don't HMG do more damage, while the lighter varieties have more rounds to get more crits?
I thought that was the idea of lighter ones being great once armor is stripped.
Maybe try measuring the time taken to strip armor?

HMG weighs more and offers greater damage output at the cost of shorter range.
LMG weighs less and offers lower damage output at the cost of longer range.

And has received various and numerous changes since 2018, the time of this post.
If I recall, there was also a bug back then with all MGs that if you pulled the trigger in rapid succession (think Macro speeds), they also shot faster than intended. This was corrected. (Also was an issue with RACs at the same time.)
Basically... the topic of this thread is so old, it's irrelevant at this time.
