I'm often in a position to need to write things, hoping team mates read them, while some more radio commands could cover 90% of QP needs.

Take command, use the battlegrid to issue orders

Holding a defensive position often does not work in Quick Play as many will not focus fire from a good defensive position. Aggressive offense tactics work better on average as moving targets are harder to hit. Often I have seen hold the defensive location tends to let the aggressive enemy units focus you.

"..Aggressive offense tactics .."

no offense meant. but.
just because people don't defend a position, that doesn't mean nascaring is in ANY shape or form meant as an offense. on the contrary, they go out of their way to NOT shoot anybody, just rotatoe around like ******

there's a saying for that behavior, but I'd get another round of forum-vacation to quote it. Posted Image

Correct, holding a position, even a good one, can allow attackers to take turns to hit one stationary target. It takes more coordination to defend and rotate out weakened defenders, than to attack in death ball formation and occasionally call out a target.

An advantage position is not the highest hill in the middle of the map. Any situation needs another tactic. Neither Defense nor Offense is the solution in every case. But we are talking about having the advantage and giving them up. And how can the enemy shoot first when he has to move in to line of sight while you are waiting for him covering the only way he can approach you?

In my experience, on maps like new Frozen the team that sits in place loses. It's not an appealing idea to cross the valley when enemies are shooting down on you, but more often than not the aggressive team wins. I've wondered why that is, and it may just be the case that the team with better players are quicker to take the initiative.

Sitting on high ground isnt always a good idea. On maps like Grim it's suicide to try to hold the tabletop.

yes, it is suicidal. @grim / top
but only because 11 out of 11 teammates just sit behind the hill, waiting for better weather, shooting nobody, tanking nothing - just wasting a slot in a 12"men" "team".

when you got 12 mechs up there and the reds are rotatoe-ing around, it's shooting fish in a barrel.
or more like shooting taters in a bowl, maybe.

but.. that involves guts + the mythical w-key; guess those 2 are rarer than unicorns in mwo these days.
*sigh* it's just not fun anymore. Posted Image

On Grim? No, sitting up top leaves you totally exposed. Unlike Mining or HPG, you don't need a ramp to attack the top. If you put 12 mechs up there, the enemy can form around the lip and hose you down from everywhere.

You can't make bad players good no matter how much you try to help them in VOIP. Best not to bother and just play your game.

90% of the time someone calls out to turn and defend they're out of position, or they want to defend a stupid position.

True. But if you can make them avoid the worst mistakes, you have improved your team's chances significantly.

If they listen, that is. Which, I admit, only happens about 10% of the time. But when it does happen, it is totally worth it.
