Thanks PGI for the constant DCs from the match server and the penalty system for trying to get back in before my mech is destroyed! You have saved me money from purchasing mech packs!

About 90% sure problem is on your end.

I played via cell phone internet for years and never had DC issues even with **** tons of dropped packets.

i did notice i was crashing a lot since i installed mw5. but at further inspection it seems that the game put itself into fullscreen mode rather than full window. idk how that happened or why.

other side of it is this is a configuration bug, fullscreen is known to cause crashes, so why is it even an option, or why hasn't it been fixed yet?

Hai, and considering the OP drops anywhere between 2-300 games/month, it is likely a recent change from his end, anywhere from his ISP changing up its routing to problematic router systems showing up in his pathway.

OP, your client actually can have up to 2-3 different connections, the authentication server (constant connection in NA-Canada), regional game server (EU, OC or NA) + VOIP (afaik, PGI has not confirmed a separate server for the TS VOIP).

Turn off/reboot router and modem.
Flush/Reset DNS and restart computer

Navigate to the desktop. (From Home, tap or click the Desktop tile).

Right-click the Start button (the Windows logo in the lower-left).

Choose Command Prompt (Admin).

When asked whether to allow Command Prompt to make changes to your computer, select Yes.

Note: If you are asked for an administrative login, you will need to contact your system administrator.

Type "ipconfig /flushdns" and press Enter.

Type "ipconfig /registerdns" and press Enter.

Type "ipconfig /release" and press Enter.

Type "ipconfig /renew" and press Enter.

Type "netsh winsock reset" and press Enter.

Restart the computer.

Try one or two different VPN. If there is a problematic router system enroute to the PGI server(s), a VPN may help by rerouting your pathway from your ISP to the PGI servers. I have had a few players successfully utilize VPN, initially as a troubleshooting tool, to play complete games without DC 1-2x during a combat drop. Then occasionally attempt to log in normally days later to see if they run into any issues.

For many, VPN usually increases ping but it reduces jitter/packet loss. As for trying more than one VPN, your connection is rerouted from the VPN server, and if that pathway takes it through one of the problematic servers, it may not help. If the issue was directly on PGI end, there would be a ton of posts, people reaching out to PGI and the team on twitter (uggh), etc.

For whatever it's worth since the last "patch" I've been getting dumped from the game way more. Although I stopped using the Steam version and it's improved somewhat.

OP I probably had hundreds of disconnects from 2014 to 2016

and it also kept me from spending a lot of money on this game

back then it was often called cry-engine fail

pretty much nothing helped

the problems went away when I went to windows 10 64bit

You cannot blame MWO for your stinky network connection or windows updating without your permission. Posted Image

idk why that's not a default or the crash needs to be debugged. i bet that one problem causes so many of the disconnects. and anyone on lower spec hardware doesn't have a chance to get back in within the allotted 2 minutes, so why bother. then if you do try you stand a good chance of having been farmed in that 2 minutes. its easier just to take your penalty and move on.

itc certainly one of those things that pgi should have fixed. sure its easier to blame your hardware, your router, your isp, or just you. but this is a pgi problem.

There have also been documented cases of the PGI "loading" you into multiple matches simultaneously. I had one a few months ago where Violent_blue was sync dropping with her viewers, and she was alive in one match with some of them, and 0 ping in another match with me, at the same moment. And sure enough she ended up with a disconnect penalty when she next tried to drop.

I almost never disconnect during a match, but I used to disconnect ~once a day at the launch of a match just when the counter reached 00:00...

And switching my video settings from "full screen" to "full window" 100% fixed that kind of disconnect : I haven't disconnected once at launch for months.

This is usually, although not always, the issue. Make sure that you are running in windowed mode or any alt-tab action can end up causing the game to crash to desktop. It doesn't fix the other random CTD, or even worse the ones that freeze the OS and require a reboot. Fortunately, those are rare.
