A quarterly battlepass like system would help with player retention, I have never seen one fail and they tend to keep players playing daily.

Maybe.
The event system with the various rewards covers the basics of this.
Adding an option to buy (with real money) an extension to the battle pass is a little like the bonus loot bags we might have gotten had we purchased a mech or MC pack or even like using premium time to get that bit extra.
The difference would be in only having some rewards available in the higher levels which are only possible if you have the purchased battle pass.
What would you have available?
