Except when the CEO of the company come out and says the two projects have separate teams and the development of one will not interfere with the progression of the other.
First time here?
I'm just surprised to hear they have plans for MWO... probably just to decide when to shut it down.

They don't, of course. PGI's standard strategy for admitting they aren't going to do something is to try to buy more time, claiming something will be done in the future.
There's a long list of examples of this. The most recent biggy was "The Year of Faction Play". By now it's obvious that it was just a thought bubble that popped into their heads when they were asked a question on stage at MechCon. They didn't want to admit they had no plans to do anything at all on his company's only product. As FP was the most recent thing they could remember people complaining about, claiming to be planning to do something about it was the easiest way to buy more time to do nothing.
PGI have been phoning it in on MWO since 2017. With this latest announcement, we've reached the point where they can't even be bothered disguising that they are not planning to do anything.

We sincerely thank you for your patience and understanding and hope that you'll appreciate participating in the upcoming event and sale which will be announced shortly!
The MechWarrior Online Team
This statement does not inspire confidence. A decision has likely already been made regarding MWO's future, we just have to sit and wait.
Anyone else here lhat use to play City of Heroes? F2P release was followed by complete server shutdown about a year later. I did not see that one coming.

"MW5 launch is proceeding as planned, we're so confident it will go smoothly that we'll be taking a break instead of keeping everyone on their toes to release a bunch of emergency fixes for it...
And once that break is over we'll start working on MWO again".
I'd say that statement is overflowing with confidence, too much really.

There were not separate M.W.O and M.W.5 development teams
While this isn't unexpected, lying has just cost you money, in a wave of nostalgia, I was intending to use the sale to finish off buying the non home brew mechs.
Now Wallet remains closed.

hahaha..
2030 maybe, but it's development will not impact M.W.O

Can you at least show enough guts to post the rest of the truth? We are all adults here, we can handle it. You might actually gain some respect if you actually DID post the truth.
What would it take to keep developing MWO? Better off telling us the truth. MW5 is it
Do we all pitch into a kick starter that will allow us to start Modding MWO? Transverse showed you like the option of a big bank day. Like MW:LL, there were loads of folks ready to mod games just to boost their resume. You could literally have an army of volunteers to step up. You could still make money keeping the servers running.
You say you are taking a break. That sounds more like MW5 is about start the same beta cycle MWO did. Just say it. We all know what's up.

There's only one critical patch Faction Play has ever needed for years, to become able to take off, and that's team balance.
And if you can't give us team balance because you refuse to let go of your unlimited group size feature that has been killing any kind of matchmaking feature and costing you thousands of potential players per year... then at least provide a risk reward balancing feature instead, in which taking a tiny risk with the match balance results in winning the corresponding tiny reward.
Even with heat bugs and AMS shooting straight through the background, I can't name you one patch that matters, until you get something that fundamentely important and critically broken working at least remotely right.
