No offense, but after the last "patch" that shipped I'm really struggling to maintain faith. We've gotten no new Mechs in six months with none announced in the pipe (let alone maps or game refinement -- year of Faction Play my ***!), along with hours-long queue times for Solaris 2v2, 1v1, Faction Queue and Group Queue -- and good luck getting games on North American servers if you haven't memorized MWO's strict prime time window. With the kind of "support" we're receiving, it's no surprise that SteamCharts and Jarl's List both show us sinking like rocks, with MW5 bound to make that worse.

And yet, with all of that, the cherry on top has to be the NGNG / PGI Q&A podcasts: WOW are they a travesty! These guys change positions faster than I change lanes on my evening commute. It's nothing but delays, excuses, and half-truths so blatant they'd make my senators blush. What is going on over there?

I've done my best to avoid complaining, but enough is enough. If PGI is going to completely abandon development and shift us into maintenance mode, they could at least tell it to us straight. The amount of stonewalling we've put up with is enough to future-proof the Florida keys until 3025. Throw us a bone!

A few months ago, during the MW5 AMA, it was announced that MWO was in standby and support for it in terms of new mechs or any kind of new content was stopped. So, yeah, they did tell us which is why even more players quit.

They tried to bring in some changes to FW and did very minor things to it over a series of updates and we have what we have now. That's about it really, for MWO. It now depends on how MW5 is received. If that bombs, then maybe there's a chance that PGI will concentrate solely on MWO to milk some more money or someone will take this franchise from them.

You do realise the "rocks" occurred at the same time Russ said that MWO was in maintenance mode?

All of this happened many months ago.

Why are you surprised, now?

None taken, and you should never lose faith. I have to agree with jcma, That's when the ride was over.

Russ did, on May 29, at the 15:30 mark:

This game died the moment mw5 was announced. The fact at the last mech con had NOTHING about any plans for mwo past mw5 should have been a big bad Red Flag to everyone. Enjoy sucking the marrow out of its bones while there's still some left.

This game died the moment they nerfed small lasers into oblivion. That's when many of us left a few years ago. After so many nonsensical balance changes, we had enough.

A dead game is when nobody plays any longer or the servers are shut down. This game is on its way to die but still playable. It's currently on life-support thanks to the constant events.

I'm ok there is no new content since the match-maker was never improved (more new mechs to keep getting losing streaks ? oh sure...)

One of the good things MWO is in maintenance mode is that we no longer get those obnoxious constant nerfs of weapons and mechs we used to have. Those surely contributed to the population to dwindle.

Aye!

They should have gone maintenance mode long before some brainwart had the idea to rescale mechs, do engine desync, do the skill tree rewamp and twiddle some moer xml files.

I'm out of the loop on MW5 I don't know if there is any multi-player or co-op element to it. It's possible that if MW5 is single-player only that PGI return to MWO once MW5 is out. MW5 could bring in more players to MWO? Perhaps some cross-over events between MW5 and MWO, something of that nature.

Or, perhaps PGI have taken MWO as far as they can, who knows.

I played FP in the middle of the day for about 4 hours yesterday, I think the longest we waited for a drop was like 5 minutes, and it would have been faster if not for the 2 minute countdown. A few times we saw more than 24 players qued on both sides

not saying the population hasn't dropped significantly in the game overall, but FP right now is very playable, the main thing that pisses people off there is those 4-5 "top player in FP"(lmao) guys that screw their team over every time they drop to troll everyone, but it doesn't look like any action will be taken against them

MW5 has co-op multiplayer that uses the Epic Launder friend's list for invites. I think that during co-op games, if you join your friend's game for e.g., you'll be using that he/she has in the hangar and not your own mech and during these co-op games, the mission doesn't end until all human players have been killed. Some of that might be quite obvious but I want to know if I'm wrong.

As for MW5 being able to bring in new players to MWO, that relies totally on how well MW5 is made first and foremost. I hope it's a good game.

I'm new to MWO.
I jumped on it when I recently saw mw5 was coming out. I've been playing Mechwarrior forever, so I have no idea why I never got around to MWO, but I am enjoying it, and hope to continue to enjoy it alongside MW5 for a long time.
I have noticed a lot of other new players from the pregame lobby chat.
The game may not be as dead as you think.
...unless you intend to be a clan loyalist, in which case, you're screwed.

I think we currently see a transitinal phase from lots of old players leaveing for different reasons while some that have seen MW5 recently are dipping their toes into MWO just now.
From what I have seen there seam indeed to be more new players. Not as much as I would like or the game might need but they are there.

I wish the new generation good luck and fun with the game. Don't be scared away by the old whales ^_^

I'm used to bitter vets, I've even been one, myself, though it's a mindset I try to avoid.
I should have been playing this game years ago, as the MW games have been among my favorite titles since I was younger.
MWO is different, mind you. Combat is much faster paced, damage comes on much quicker, and builds are quite different from what I would use in those games, but in the end, i'm here to pilot my favorite mechs against other pilots, and i'm having a blast doing it...even when I completely fail.

this game has been "dead" for years

literally the last 2 to 3 years you could log in to NA "prime time" and play with or against the same guys over and over.

far to many Paul the balance master super nerfs/buffs, not to mention for the entire games life from closed beta to "maintenance mode" nothing but over promising and under delivering.

see you in MW-5, pray the over promising under delivering stopped with MWO!!
