The BeeF said it's a casual game.

It's like Doom 2016 without the corridors and glory kills

I've played just one Instant Action mission which was an Assassination mission. I rolled with the default settings but cranked the graphics to maximum.

My system specs:
i5 9400F
16GB RAM
1660ti 6GB

The game is installed on the regular hdd not the SSD. The game runs as smooth as butter with occasional and very minor hiccup when crashing into buildings or when there's a huge fancy explosion. Toning down some settings will probably remove this while still allowing me to play with most other settings cranked all the way up and at 1080p.

The sound effects are decent but some of the weapon sounds lack the impact based on the destruction it causes.

The Instant Action Assassination mission was set to 50% difficulty and I was given the Boar's Head. I took 3 other lance-mates with a Grasshopper, Commando and a Crab. I ended the mission with 1200-odd damage and 24 kills while my lance-mates all survived and got around 10-14 kills each. They seemed to know what they were doing for the most part as I never issued any commands. The Commando would always head straight for the easy targets like turrets while the Grasshopper stayed mostly near me. I did fight some Locusts, Thunderbolt, Shadowhawk, Archer, loads of turrets, land and aerial vehicles and the priority target was the Awesome. They were all easy to kill 'cause it was 50% difficulty. One thing to notice was how easy it was to kill Locusts. They didn't zip around like in MWO. I think it was 'cause the Boar's Head had great torso pitch and speed.

The action was fast, intense and very satisfying. Like I said, I've only played 1 mission so far but even with that data, I found myself liking what I've experienced. It's like Doom 2016 without the corridors and glory kills. The Boar's Head itself was very responsive and easy to maneuver. It had the default AC10, LRM and 4 MPL loadout and it had a lot of heat in the reserves. The default controls behave just like MWO but without the nerfs. All of my lance-mates survived with a chunk of kills and it's a good thing. They seemed competent and able to survive on their own at this difficulty setting.

Overall, I think I'd look at it like Oblivion. To put it into context, TES : Oblivion, for me, is the best TES game with the right mods. Now, I found vanilla Oblivion to be quite bland but the potential was always there. I'm NOT SAYING THAT MW5 is bad like the vanilla Oblivion but what I'm saying is that there's a real gem here. Yes, the lack of customization like we have in MWO could be problematic but there are weapon tiers, different firing modes, lots of mechs, etc., With the right mods, this game could be quite something to behold. Even with just 1 mission, I can see what PGI have tried to achieve here and I have to give them two thumbs-up.

If you're looking for a fancy sim-type mechwarrior game with full HOTAS, you can find something decent but I wouldn't call it a sim. It is action oriented at its core and it's a good thing. When mods are released, there's enough potential to turn this game into anything, I think.

I think PGI have done a good job here. Again, I have to reiterate that I've played only 1 mission as it was very late in the night when I finished downloading but from what I've experienced even with 1 mission, I'm liking the game. Can't wait to play more.

why, i know my way around the problem more than they do. this kind of thing is why i know controllers from electronics and firmware, through the usb hid standards, all the way up to the high level apis. video games have been doing bad control implementations for over a decade.

What? This is a completely ridiculous attitude to have. Just tell them so they can fix it and it works for everyone and you don't have hack it in.

i already have my own workarounds. pgi meanwhile are tight lipped. as for bad attitudes, the "let someone else fix it" is also insane.

Speak up, I can barely hear you from up there on that cross...

If you don't tell them there's a specific problem how would they know it exists at all?

I'm not sure if he said that or not, but if he did, the BeeF needs to try and beat every mission with a single light mech which is a significant challenge for even a hardened MWO veteran. People nowdays don't seem to understand that it's incumbent on the player in a single player game to challenge themselves rather than just relentlessly exploiting the easiest meta configuration and every advantage available (e.g. consumables) which MWO has unfortunately taught our playerbase to do.

My first impression: It's good.

Tbh I was trying to temper my hype since I get let down a lot when it comes to series I like, but, damn if I'm hyped now that I've played the demo.

Even with that said, I don't see why a casual game is bad. Is it "casual" casual? No, it's not. Is it easy from the demo's p.o.v? Yes. But you can certainly see that some missions are harder than others. If people are going to cast a "It's casual" opinion around, then that's them. It's a SP game. It's casual to some and hardcore to others. I can sit here and call Doom 3 on Nightmare as casual but it's a SP game and it was nightmare to someone else.

MW5 is just like that. It's Doom 2016 without the corridors and glory kills. It's already enjoyable. Try all the different loadouts and lance combinations or try doing missions solo or something. Then you'll get it. Play how you want 'cause it's a SP game.

Is it possible to have multiple "pilot accounts" in one digital copy of MW5? Say, if you want to play it and your significant other wants to play it for herself..

You mean different Profile saves? You should be able to. I don't see why not. I must say that I haven't thoroughly checked for that option in the demo though.

How good is the AI?

In other words, have you died or had to use brains?

Try running as administrator, turn off nvidia physics, and if you're in Win10, set compatibility to win7... that worked on my FIancee's laptop when she tried to run MWO on the 1050ti card..

I mean I want to install my paid copy on my desktop, and on my fiancee's laptop, so I can play it on both machines, and maybe have her play for herself and me playing for myself.. like playing two different characters in Diablo for instance..

No, I don't think you can have two instances of the game running at the same time no matter on which machine. It's like Steam games. You can install that same game on multiple systems but only one instance can be active at any time.

Fairly sure that Steam and Epic have pretty much axed being able to do that with games any more. It's a shame, but hey, that's capitalism for you.

Dude, even with cd's from yore, you couldn't do it 'cause you needed the cd in the tray to actually play... unless you cracked it which was illegal anyway.

Is anyone running the game on a veritable potato? I'm stuck overseas with a laptop, with no access to my desktop gaming rig, and wondering if it's worth a shot. Fairly strong CPU (core i7) but an old mobile gaming GPU (Geforce 740M).

As far as difficulty level. "Casual" equals potential to attract new players. Which equals a possible future for this franchise. Unfortunately they really can't tune the game to challenge MWO veterans.
