Konga (1961)

After a small plane crashes into e African jungle, Dr. Decker returns to London with a small chimpanzee named Konga nearly a year later. Upon his arrival he spoke to some reports about carnivorous plants that would help his research.
Upon entering his lab he started ripping out flowers growing in his greenhouse in order to plant some of the plants he had brought back with him. Having learned some secrets from a witch doctor, Dr. Decker started to extract juice from various leaves. During a minor accident a domestic cat started lapping up some of the juice. Dr. Decker then shot the poor kitty with a pistol. By this time the plants had become monstrous.
After an argument with the college Dean, he injects Konga with his evil formula causing Konga to grow. Decker then sent Konga out to kill the Dean, and soon after a rival scientist.
When Dr. Decker takes a female student to his house his secretary becomes jealous who proceeds to inject Konga with more growth juice and sends him after Decker and the girl. Konga grabs Decker and the girl becomes a snack for one of the plants. The military opens up on Konga with machine guns as the music plays -- with Konga just standing there taking bullets, shrinking down to his original size upon his demise. Very anti-climatic.

A B movie from the early 60's. About mid range on the scale of monster movies for the time, a lot better than attack of the killer shrews, but no where near as good as King Kong.
