Tremors
This film, which features Kevin Bacon in a near comical role takes place out in the western arid desert of the U.S., and something is hunting, something unseen.
The movie starts off as a pair of handymen are unhappy with their jobs and decide to get out of the hole in the sand town in which they find themselves stuck in. Upon leaving they find a corpse of the local drunk high up on a high tension tower. They also find what remains of a car that had been pulled into the ground. It does not take them long to discover that some creature living down in the ground has come up, and is treating humans as a buffet.
Although there is plenty of great humor in the film, it also features foul language, and some frightening scenes. Would not recommend it for children.

i find his character very amusing.
there are a large number of sequels and a short lived tv series. things get kind of campy the deeper you go. there was even a fairly recent instalment with an aging burt that while not great was still watchable.
