Assault Mech Weakness

In an assault to be effective you must carry a heavy load out, in most cases making you slow and in most cases left behind by your team. If your left behind by your team you become a target for scavenger lights and fast mediums who can circle you faster than you can turn meaning they just stay behind you and strip your armor off then kill you.

So why not allow Assault mechs the ability to have secondary armaments on their back that track and fire at any enemy that attacks from behind, the secondaries would be AI controlled, nothing super powerful just a bit of a deterrent, at least the fast little guys get a little damage out of the deal

Because your not an army of one... your focusing on the wrong problem.. the answer is teamwork, of which, there is none in this game..Your light and medium teammates should be supporting you, and keeping those light, fast mechs off your back while you (in the assault) devastate your enemy's with your heavy slow long and midrange loadout. But alas, no teamwork and everyone runs off to be the Solo hero and get the most kills... and high damage scores instead of focusing on WINNING the match with Tactics and Teamwork.. The solo FPS attitude of the players in this game just makes it like every other game... if you want to be a solo player go play Rust, or any other game where the teamwork doesn't matter. SuperMan MechPilots have no place in this game but they seem to be the only thing we have....

Dude match maker is broken.
Otherwise weaker assault pilots would play against weaker oponents
Stronger pilots play to win not support some weaker dude, as that don't get wins

There is NO TEAMWORK in this game anymore, It all "everyone out for themselves" ,

You were a rookie once... Now you are part of the problem with this game....but lets just blame the matchmaker.... that's convenient. "Its broken because I have to help Train up some one to be a better pilot and watch his back instead of running off to the nascar race for glory."... yea.... ok
There's a reason I don't play this non mechwarrior- mechwarrior game anymore. The main reason is the Players.. not the game (but the game does have a few issues to but I have mentioned those in a different post)

Continue to talk from ignorance, and keep talking! I keep muting stupeed, pity theirs no perma death.
So stupeed learns consequences faster.
Maybe listen to those with more experience and they wont keep muting instead of being a pride filled icarus.

If Match maker were functional their would be a more than now gradual learning curve.
But that was a move for the hay day when such moves were economical for the cost and profitable
For for long run.

That's a common fallacy.
No, you shouldn't stuff your mech with weapons until you barely have space for an engine, you need to balance your loadout with your speed (and heat management, for that matter). An assault that's too slow is a liability - not only it cannot keep up, it can't maneuver in time to make itself useful during an engagement.
If you're going slower than 48 kph in an assault in Quick Play, you're almost certainly doing something wrong and many assaults can manage ~58 KPH just fine. Slower specialized builds can work in .Faction Play or Solaris, but trying to bring them into QP is not a good idea.

Don't follow the light's movement with your rotation once you lose line of fire on it - stop and counter-rotate instead, you'll get it back into your sights shortly.

Whenever your team gets too spread out, use the comms to call for regrouping. This helps everyone on your side. Likewise, if you spot the enemy mechs then you should call them in ASAP. Asking for a faster mech to provide escort while you rejoin the rest of the force is not a bad idea either (no, you can't expect to always get it, but sometimes is still better than never).

Because PGI already took those hardpoints and gave them to you as front-facing armament.
