So, I finally got my hands on MW:5 Mercs. Instead of making another rhetorical thread of my essay review of the game and first impressions I will summarize that I'm enjoying it so far. Graphics are crisp and I was worried that it wouldn't be optimized for my PC in 2019. Glad I was proven wrong with all of the in game settings defaulting on high with no lag. However, I am concerned about a few things:
  • No thermal sights for battlemechs? Is this something that I have to unlock later as Lostech or did PGI really forget about implementing mech thermals? I was really crossing my fingers for the classic predator thermals from MW:2 but was rather surprised that there wasn't a keybind for that feature under the option menu.
  • No Auto piloting for Nav point objectives? I'm kinda bewildered why this isn't here since this was a useful feature back in MW:2. I have no clue if this system was taken out of MW:3 and MW:4 (since I never played those games), but it was a really nice feature to have an autopilot system that would navigate your mech to the nearest objective point while you can focus on engaging hostile forces.
  • Why can't we enlarge the minimap or get a satellite overhead view of the mission map terrain? Map enlargement was a feature in MW:O and MW:2 had a real time overhead top down view. This along with the Auto pilot should absolutely be in the game. Unless I'm blind and skipped through these features by accident I'm just baffled on how they forgot about these features.
Overall I'm enjoying what they have delivered, but it might have not hurt if they delayed the game just a little bit more for some extra polish on what is supposed to be a final product. I hope some future patches address on what features they might have left out, and I'm looking forward to the future DLC's or any mods that might import my beloved dirty overpowered clan mechs.

0 on the number pad sets your speed to max just like it does in MWO.

Sorry, I know for a fact I would rather have more lance commands than 'autopiloting' (if it came down to that) and could understand why that wouldn't make into the game.
Not sure how it would work, but directional lance commands would be very nice and allow you to get ready for those last stand defense modes.

To me, it seems like no matter what the game launched as, there was going to be so many pent up nerd years of fantasizing about the next Mechwarrior game from MW4 that it could launch and be the best ******* game ever made and our community would still look at it like it's a ****. I can't even believe I am saying that, but after witnessing the general reaction, I've lost a lot of hope in Mechwarriorkind.

If I was a dev of a very well-off game company, I wouldn't touch this franchise with a ten-foot pole. Y'all are batshit crazy.

Unlike those pent up nerds, I'm grateful for another Mechwarrior game. I can't believe it's been almost two decades since we got an official Mechwarrior title. Makes me feel old when my introduction to the franchise was when I was 7 with Mechwarrior 2 on DOS.

Oh ya, and my god I want heat vision so bad. Imagine how that would look with those swarms, or a mech breaking through a previously cold wall. Something tells me it's coming. Also, night vision is much more dynamic than MWO's. I like how it handles light flares.

The night vision that we have has some properties of heat vision as well. It can see through smoke better.

1. Yep, no heat vision. There's just night vision which most of the things look worse than the time Hibernal Rift was introduced and had terrible amount of brightness.

2. You can default levels of throttle just like in MWO using the numpad keys. But if you're referring to full auto-pilot, then it's not there possibly 'cause every map is a target rich environment and often times, enemies spawn behind you out of nowhere Posted Image

3. Press "B" by default and you can enlarge the mini-map. Also, to give you a heads-up, when you're in the Mech Bay, press Tab by default to open the Home screen so that you don't need to run around the Leopard activating consoles.

Plus, we're dealing with the company whose last attempt at auto pilot yielded the Escort Mode Atlas...
