If it's any consolation, it is not supposed to look like that and doesn't look like that in English.

The user doesn't have their display settings set correctly. I had the same problem in the demo until I adjusted my monitor and resolution.
Does it end there? probably not because it could be the UI (not talking about how it looks) probably needs to be better at auto-detecting user settings.

Yeah I'd say it's pretty much just as bad if not worse.
But speaking of MW4...
What's funny is a lot of people don't know the pulse laser damage of the large pulse laser is
Weapon___Tonnage__Slots___Range__Damage___Heat__Recycle__Damage/sec__Damage/Ton__ODV
LP Laser___7________2_____600_____2.62______1.75__1.25____2.10_________0.37_________2.47
Large Laser_5_______2_____600_____7.5_______5_____5______1.50_________1.50_________3.00
But it was the best weapon in the game.
MPL did 0.6 damage per use.

<.<
Yet for years people would swear the MWO weapons were so bad in comparison to how powerful they felt in MW4. Remember one guy once claiming the IS LPL did 11 damage in MW4 which was why they were so OP compared to MWO...
I think the nostalgia is strong but misremembered for some people. For example I completely forgot we could change engines in Mw3.
---
For the OP.
Now the MW5 is far from perfect, and it is very clearly incomplete.
But MW4 is hardly a good mechlab to boast about. Why not compare Mw3 or MW2's mechlabs to MW5?
Now Mw5 to MWO is a pretty fair comparison.
One more edit.
Russ recently said (paraphrased) the reason was MWO's interface is often seen as too complex for new players and possibly a high barrier for them to get into the game, so they wanted to simplify it.

this is not an explanation for the fact that the developers just decided to cross out their labors for 3 years and make an unimaginably uncomfortable interface

MWO weapons do feel bad compared to MW4, but it has nothing to do with stats or damage. MW4 weapons feel better because they deal torso twist damage and can cause knockdown. The LPL in MW4 was terrible when it came to killing, but it severely knocked around your aim to a frustrating degree the rare few times you found someone using them. That didn't make them good, but it made them FEEL good, which plays a trick on the mind into thinking they were better.

How?
It's basically the same interface, except:
- The Market is handled as its own module
- There is no mention for things the user cannot change, eg. permanent slots for actuators
- There is no changeout of Engines, sink types, or armor and structure types, so these droplists are removed. Double sinks and Artemis missiles are their own weapon systems, and are interchangeable.
- "dynamic structure slots" subsequently, are removed since you're not changing out armor types or endo types.
Suggesting they threw away '3 years' of Mechlab work is a bit silly. If they thought it was worth porting over wholesale they would have, and it is not as if they had to start over from blank. The MW5 UI isn't supposed to be a carbon copy of the MWO UI, and in perspective that's a weird thing to demand.
MWO is a Deathmatch game where players throw Frankebuilds at each other; MW5 is a stab at a Battletech Universe game where you take charge of a merc outfit.
