Does anyone know if I save a crapload of repair time by dropping heavily damaged mechs into cold storage instead of removing the broken components during repair? I noticed that there was time allotted to removing broken components on a mech. Cold storage removes everything instantly. So theoretically, if a mech is destroyed a cold storage bath will repair it faster than removing the broken crap and replacing it.

Removing components is generally pretty quick, but it does take time. So, if you need to remove everything, or all but one or two components, it can save time and money to drop a mech into cold storage, then pull it back out to repair. That only really works if a mech is horribly trashed though. The time and money to reinstall good parts quickly outstrips the savings from removing broken bits.

Yes cold storage is a bit broken in that regard. If you want to strip a mech to sell it, its better to drop it in cold storage, pay no money and have everything instantly removed.

If you want to repair the mech, I think it depends on the amout of damage taken as I think at some point the heavy and assaults would take so much time and money to repair the armor completly that its better to repair them normaly.

Point is I haven't set down and calculated all that so...might work might not but if you want to strip it for selling, thats definitly faster.

In my head canon the cold storage removal is not taking place in one of your mechbays and so doesn't take up any mechtech time.

Making it any different from a gameplay perspective would kinda suck: time required to remove a mech from one of your slots? You might be trying to buy a new mech or accept a reward. Similarly, rooting around cold storage to remember which slag you accidentally left your double heat sinks in would become a complete waste of time.

Can work well sometimes (a trashed out HBK-4P whose hunch with the 6 medium lasers was destroyed), other times not so much. Sending mechs to cold storage sometimes causes their armor values to get reset. I have also put 100% mechs in cold storage and have them come out with armor damage.

took me a moment to figure why, but I would place some mechs in Cold Storage, and they are fine minus the components, but some have armor damage. only conclusion I could see for the armor damage, , on some mechs I added or reallocated armor points, and so cold storage had went to default armor settings, now show missing armor aka damaged armor, though I know when I placed the mech there was 100% healthy

was the only way I could think why the mech would show armor damage when placed in Cold Storage

Why would you need to save time?

I mean, the only missions that are time sensitive are the multiple operations missions, and on those you still can't use the mech that you need to repair or mount something on..

All other missions can wait months if needed..

And it's not like wasting time does anything but get you better equipment.

If you+re out of cash and your bills are due, you can always sell something off, or drop a quick mission for extra cash with only 3 lancemates..
