Maybe I missed something because I can only play in 20 minute chunks while taking care of my kids, but how do I progress the story after De Berry? I got "out of the system" and now my Tracked Objectives just says "Take Contracts and Expand your Company". Okay...I've done about 6 contracts and have gone up 2 ranks and that's still all I see.

Do I just keep doing these auto-generated missions until something happens?

Yes that is pretty much it. You raise your ranking by doing missions until a new story mission pops up.

It is just like HBS's Battletech. You keep grinding for equipment and mechs until you hear a call from Kamea Arano or someone else and go where you're needed.

And just like HBS's Battletech, it isn't a good idea to rush to the next story quest 'cause you might be grossly under-prepared for the tonnage that's going to come at you.

There's a gap in story about 4 to 6 ranks long.

Regarding random missions, in my last play through (2nd), I actively avoided random missions but instead went for only those special missions, those you get from transmissions. This feels significantly less repetitive plus they give good rep boosts and bonus items like DHS's. They also seem to unlock missions where you have to make a choice, like side with A in a defense or B with an attack.

They are still not unique though, are they? I mean, sure, the briefing is different and you get to choose sides but you're still doing the same type of mission like Defense, Assassination, Raid, etc.,
