So there's several games in game history where you can actually tell your AI partners what range to attempt to fight from. I think going back as far as original Fallout games... like 1 and 2. I seem to remember asking Sulik what weapons he was good with... he answers Sulik: “We be good with fist, spear, big hammer, sub machine gun. We and I be a handful."

The point is... he told me what he was good with, and then from there I could tell him what weapon to use, and what "range" to fight from. Such as obviously to fight close in for melee weapons, but he could give range if using the SMG.

Now maybe we don't need to tell the pilots themselves where to fight from. But we could assign fighting tactics to mechs when AI pilots them. Such as an LRM boat with a few small, or medium lasers, shouldn't be running into brawl.. which seems to be all the AI currently know how to do. CHARGE!

As a side note.. it would be nice on defensive missions if the AI didn't needlessly walk on every building they find for no reason other than to crush them. In a fight ok maybe I know I have. But they follow me in.. spread out.. and just walk on anything near them. We aren't under attack yet.. nothing exciting is happening.. but we just lost 5% I wish they were half as effective during the demolition missions. They almost seem to avoid crushing buildings then. They just kinda plick at them.
